Re: My suspension quest, looking for advice
Wow, What a great read. I spent over an hour reading from this topic. I've learned alot and hope to put some of what I have learned into practice.

Re: My suspension quest, looking for advice
I've got to play with an S2000 on track this weekend. Makes you wonder why even bother with a Civic.
I am somewhat still looking for more rotation. There really is something I am missing, as I had it with my last car, last year, in this topic, the day I had my mechanical failure. It was like Jeremy Croiset's...icy loose. The set-up was even more conservative than the actual one......there really is stuff I can't figure out, and clearly this is more complex than an internet forum topic.
I will probably drop 200lbs from the 1200lbs front springs and run squared 1000lbs. But I am pretty sure this won't give me anything I need.
I am out of idea.

One reason - not many of us will fit into a caged s2000. Hard dog bar yes, cage no.

Dropped the front rates to 1000lbs, now running 1000lbs square.
Opened up the front toe. Rear is very little opened up too.
High and low rear tire pressures will be tested, as well as shock rebound settings.
After that, I give up and just drive the crap out of the car.
PS. datalogger tells me I go in pretty fast compared to some other drivers. But still, I USED TO have the rotation I want. Now I don't. Which lead me to believe this has absolutely nothing to do with my driving style.
As for those tired of reading what looks like some other noob topic, I am not retarded, i've been a serious track person for 11 years now.
The more I know, the less I know. The end.

Re: My suspension quest, looking for advice
I don't see the use for these informations honestly ?
Update : dropping the front rates really helped with rotation. 1000lbs is still resistant enough to roll not to need a front bar with street tires. The car now lifts very little in slow corners, at turn in, and go back down on throttle.
I liked how the car behaved.
Now the pyro tells me I need just a bit more front camber. Lap times couldn't not be compared to before...it was pretty crowded and I couldn't get many clean laps.
It is weird that going front-stiff FROM rear-stiff at the begining of this thread (in the 500-600lbs range, non-race shocks) made my car more suited to my driving...and that now, in the 4 digits and race shocks, I prefer no front bar and somewhat of a neutral set-up. My driving didn't change much.
Again, the more you know, the less you know.

Not necessarily - this isn't quantum mechanics. And it's not unheard of to go around in circles. You're paying attention to all the right things - you'll get there.
Scott, who knows that the more you know the less you know in the classic sense of the boundary with the unknown growing, but that's not an argument for knowing less inasmuch as they're not the same less's...

Square rates with no front bar work well, thanks to the moderate toe out.
Did a solo2 heat and low speed rotation was wonderfull. Times were competitive even on street tires vs people using slicks. Waiting for pics for lift analysis.
Time attack next week end. Hopefully the much appreciated rotation will result in faster lap times.
Getting there...yet again.

Re: My suspension quest, looking for advice
The class are over simplified. I am in FWD street (140+ threadwear tires). The 2 other FWD classes are 50-140 threadwear, and 50 or less.
I run a non-vtec engine with about 130whp...so I get a good challenge from these 180whp+ Type R with good weight reduction.
I usually run 1:02.3, while the VTEC guys with similar mods run 1.01 high to 1.02 low.
Shooting for 1.01 now.

Re: My suspension quest, looking for advice
Ok. Lateral G's were the highest I ever scored using the same measuring device, on the same track, with the same tires and about the same exterior temperatures.
So squaring my spring rates to 1000lbs (from 1200lbs front), removing the 26mm front bar and slightly opening the toe at all 4 made me faster thru corners.
It also made the car much more suited to my driving, and the good rotation made for a really sharp and fun car to drive.
Toe and shock rebound make for more work behind the steering under heavy braking, but nothing that can't be dealt with quite easily.
I didn't better my lap times, as I didn't use my race exhaust. Corner speeds were faster everywhere though, but straight speed were lower due to exhaust.
I know we're never really done, but I couldn't think of optimizing anything on the car at that last event. Rotation was perfect, balance was good, tires pyro temps were perfect ...everything was just superb.
Sure I'd use an extra 40 to 60whp, but that's another story.
Until next time...

Re: My suspension quest, looking for advice
I've had a Miata for a season after I sold the 2000 Civic. Had loads of fun. Then took some time off.
Acquired a 2008 Civic Si as a commuter. Been tracking it a few times. Man do these things weight. Couldn't get the thing to rotate of course (even with -2.7F, 22mm progress rear bar).
The thing is a hoot to drive though, and the K motor and transmission is amazing for track use. It feels fast even though it is slow as hell.
I feel as there is much less affordable possibilities with the chassis, and I understand it as it's going to be much easier to optimize than a 2000-and-less chassis; since it is a commuter and no way I am spending much on it.
Shooting to run 255 front tires, 24mm rear bar, increase height as the lowering coils currently on are way too low, and enjoy the damn thing until a rwd Honda gets in the garage.
I hope this topic helps a few others difficult to please.

Re: My suspension quest, looking for advice
Had fun with the 2008 Si using stock coils on Koni sports, 24mm rear bar, -2.7F camber, stock rear. 255 front tires and 215 rear.
Then bought a 2015 Scion FRS. -2.2 front camber, 255 tires on 17x9, DTC-60 and everything stock. So. Much. Fun. So much in fact, that I bought a Toyota 86 2 years later (higher final drive and cute bits here and there).
Drove a new CTR and a Supra on track, too. Nothing gave me as much fun as the Toyota 86 yet. It is like a mix of a miata, an S2000, without the oldness and the problems and the retardness.
The quest is still on, but RWD and a low CG made it more fun. The almost stock factor is also a profound pleasure, as we grow older.
Stay safe fellows, hope you are all well.
