Default Max Backspacing for EF Civics?

I'm currently running 5" of backspacing on my 89 Civic, but that was driven mostly by the rear trailing arm. I'm picking up some new front rims, and since I'm not going to have 4 matching rims, I figured I'd tuck the new ones in as much as I could. So, has anybody gone with more than 5" of backspacing on the front of an EF Civic, and if so, how much?

Should be able to get away with 5.75" backspacing and then use spacers as appropriate to move the wheel out (based on what tire you are running etc.)

Jaker on here was running 5.75" and iirc, the only reason he was using spacers was to clear the Wilwood calipers, otherwise they'd fit in front. Maybe he'll chime in...

I'm running Jaker's old wheels with 5.75" backspace and they fit perfect on an EG.

Thanks guys. I'll probably go 5.5" just to leave a little room in case the 275's have a fat sidewall. Still - that's 1" narrower than the 5" BS would have been, so thanks!

Dave,

Why not go with the 5.75" backspace. This will leave you some room to tune. Nothing worse than going too shallow, and wishing you'd gone deeper (re-machining). If its too deep, you just add spacers.
