K2X Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Build
So I have been itching to get my race kaa running again, after purchasing a bum k20 type arrrrrr engine. I didn't take any pics of putting the engine together, really didn't want to give out any secrets and my cell camera doesn't do macro stuff.
This was a complete build with all HONDA OEM parts minus rod bearings. I believe in stock parts plus if I ever want to race honda challenge again I'll be able too.
k2x bottomend
type s oil pump
2006 tsx rods
2009 tsx pistons
mugen oil pan
k20z3 head and cams
35 hours of head work
3 hours of work on the valve job by brad and howard at RLZ
k20a type arrrrr intake manifold and tbody
Spec 1 Intake Special (8hp gain over regular intake and filter)
Tune for startup by HOWARD at RLZ, hope i can find time to get down there before friday for full tune.
2005 rsx type s tranny
2007 type arrrrrr lsd
So tuesday brad worked his majic on the valve job. Still every nut and bolt of the engine and tranny was apart waiting to be finished. rings had been ground down and bearings spec'd but still needed to build everything.
Start up at noon on saturday. Heat cycle engine 3 times. Little leak from the crank seal, was sure it was gonna leak but no one in town had one so i PDQ'd it from advanced for sunday install.
Spoon Calipers and stainless lines on sunday. Sunday bleed brakes put wheels on and drive. Little run to up to check air fuels...little lean 14.2 but not in the danger zone.....turn car around and get on it. dang that rev limiter came fast...that can't be 7500....run through 1-4 and rev limiter was way soon....shift to 5th....rev limiter....k....air fuels still good...shift to 6th and run it out to rev limiter. didn't feel fast and since the tach wasn't working i thought it was only going to 5k. head back to the house and put a working tach and and check datalog....
everything was a go for a second run...yeap....7500 rpms comes that quick...dang....run it out again and holy cow i think i'm gonna run outta gear on the track.
With the old engine k20 arrrrr with 5.01 final drive i hit rev limiter in 6th almost everytime on the back straight at VIR and Road Atlanta.
NO LEAKS ANYWHERE!!! wooo hoooo....
Well on with the pics....I have a couple.
Thanks Brian at HASPORT for the technical help and the racing help over the years.
Thanks PIC Perfomance.
Thanks Brad and Howard at RLZ.

Re: K2X Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Build
i've been around....got kinda pissed that engine i bought last year only lasted me 33 miles....
some freaking idiot redneck only put 1 thrust washer in....so i spun all the main bearings...and it had after market pistons and rods in it...the list goes on....go i've slowly been getting parts together to build an engine and decided the grassroots motorsports tt would be a good time...
but we were on a 2 week mission trip to africa until the 7th of july....and not all the parts were here...as of 7/16 everything on the engine and tranny was just a pile of bolts and nuts and parts....
will be dyno'ing in the am at Darrel *** Racing just north of EDEN NC.
will see....hope for high 2xx....hehehe....my numbers will be mine only....i'll let 206 lap times speak for themselves....that is the goal....but without hoosiers i don't think it is gonna happen....and i'm not dropping 900 bones on tires for a day!

Im glad to see you getting back to the track in the si. I just hope for you that your numbers make up for your lack of seat time.

Chad, nice to see you back in the game. Can't wait to see how good the car is. Keep me in the loop. Good luck and kick ***. I know you can't stay out for long.
Talking about engine problem. I had he same problem with an engine that lasted only 2 session. Bought a long block out of craigslist. Should have checked it completely cause the idiot didn't properly tighthen the rod bolt.

i made 243 hp on a 100% honda part build minus the acl bearings. didn't feel like spending 225 on a set of honda bearings.
