There are about 5 articles on the story on http://www.grandprix.com.
Looks like ChampCar will have some problems next year... someone will buy Jags F1 team, and an auto manufacturer may buy Cosworth.

Is Cosworth wholy owned by Ford or has that merely been a very long term partnership? I would be upset to see Cosworth go away but the idea that Jaguar didn't meet sales expectations (if I am reading that right) in the consumer market as a reason to exit F1 seems very weak. Does Jaguar actually have a sales campaign to do anything for car sales? I think the movie "Crazy People" has done more to date for Jag than anything coming out of Ford/Jaguar in the last 10+ years.

I am sure many remember all the fanfare and cockiness displayed when Jaguar first came into F1. Reminds me of BAR's former attitude. They quickly learned " big corporate managment" style doesn't work for squat in F1 and team continuity and experience count for a whole hell of a lot (see Ferrari). Don't you know Mark Webber is breathing a sigh of relief make his switch in 05.

Have you seen the ticket prices to attend an F1 race? $250 gets you a nose bleed and $500 might get you a decent view with no wine or cheese. I bet most of the people attending these events drive BMW's, MB's, Ferraris, and other exotics.

Oh, you must mean when they tossed Bobby Rahal, and installed Nikki Lauda in his place. So how different would things have been if Jackie Stewart hadn't sold out to Ford?

Cosworth is fully owned by Ford, but what I don't get is the fact that they make the Chevy badged engines for IRL. One article I just read said that GM might buy Cosworth and enter F1 as simply an engine supplier. To take the speculation a step further, Red Bull would want to partner with an American engine supplier, and might buy Jag to do it....

i'm pretty sure Grand Prix Tours offers packages of flight, hotel, and tickets to qual and the race somewhere in the neighborhood of $500. i know last year you could get tickets for $50 as well.

The decision of Ford bailing on F1 and more than likely WRC is probably the result of the company bleeding money. The company has been in the red for a while now and has been overtaken by Toyota in the domestic marketplace. Think they have some big problems to solve before they continue to spend big money on motorsports like they have been.

It's kind of a European thing. They would look at you funny if you called it a Benz. People are starting to use it here more because it's "cool" I guess.

GM was getting so badly spanked by Honda and Toyota (surprise, surprise...) that they went to Cosworth for help. Ford must have been laughing all the way to the bank.

GP Tours does have some "cheap" packages (starting around $1200), but they dont include most of the stuff you listed, especially airfare (but they will take you to and from the airport
). And that doesnt include the cost of tickets for the actual race! If you want to see all the cool stuff they say they offer up in the ads, you have to pony up $3350
