Irish Tarmac Rally Eg6's Builds
Built these 2 cars over a couple of years. One was a bare shell build and the other was rescued from the scrapheap. Building another low spec car for gravel rallies At the moment.

After pulling out everything out of the car We decided to make it as light as possible. We drilled out every anchor nut that wasnt needed and drilled 2inch holes everywhere possible on interior panels. Didnt get too many pics. We then took the car to paint for a creamy white Renault colour.

We bought Safety device's CDS Weld in cage for the car but put in 3 extra lengths of piping for extra Safety. Also the guy who fitted it brought the piping as close to the shell as he could in all areas.
With paint finished we start the build 😊

Re: Irish Tarmac Rally Eg6's Builds
We ran all wires, fuel lines and brake lines inside the car so they wouldnt get damaged if we had a small excursion. Battery and as much parts as we could we taken from under the bonnet and put in the back of the car to make maintenance easier.

Skunk2 exhaust system 2.5inch was fitted. Along with subframe which we painted a nice bright colour because it looks good but also to spot things like leaks or loose things a bit easier.

Next on were Suspension and Brakes. For the Suspension we chose Proflex 3 way dampers with remote cannister. Proflex are a proven shock on irish tarmac. we also put tarmac springs on the suspension but later changed back to a stiff gravel spring which i feel suits the bumpy tarmac better.
For the brakes we went with an AP Racing 4pot set up on the front with a 292mm disc. And a standard set up on the rear. Carbon lorraine brake pads all round for serious braking and a wilwood bias valve for adjustment. We did use a tilton bias valve but had problems. It wasnt able to put up but the heavy braking.

The engine was built by Dr Keith McMullen in Cork Institute of Technology and headwork was done by Guy Croft in the UK. The engine B16B 1600cc made 221bhp and 145ftlbs of torque with skunk2 pro2 cams, CPS 81.5mm pistons, ACL bearings, supertech valves, new guides and teflon stem seals, AT power throttle bodies and marelli pico injectors. Vauxhall coil pack with one off toothed wheel and one off plug leads to fit the vauxhall to honda set up. A Vibrant Exhaust Manifold to join the Skunk2 exhaust system. All run by a DTA pro ECU.
Gearbox is a Quaife unit with a top speed of 122mph and a Quaife atb diff. We are still using standard drives but bought a brand new set off honda. We put in Hardrace engine mounts and a Tegiwa Radiator also.

We chose Compomotive MO 15inch Wheels. So we banged them on as well as Hardrace Camber and Toe Arms to give the car full adjustment. We started paneling the car and put in Plastics4Performance poly window kit including the rear window which is original replacement.

We put on the Carbon bonnet and then decided to make brake cooling ducts using an old set of spot lamp holders i had in the shed. They fit nicely into the front bumper.

We sent the car to get the decals done to put the finishing touches on it. Nearly set for rallying . If anyone has any questions i would be glad to answer them if i am able. Car weighed 954kg at final weigh in with 20litres of fuel on board.

Re: Irish Tarmac Rally Eg6's Builds
Car number 2 was more of a budget build. This is my brothers car. He wasnt long out of school and money was tight. I found out about this car through a friend and it looked a bit worse for wear but was good in the right places and relatively straight shell. It had the roll cage already welded in and had been rallying up till 2 years before.
So we began again with a little bit less to do this time.

We started with a good clean out and sanded back under the bonnet. And begun cutting all the excess weight out of the car and welding any rusty patches.

Re: Irish Tarmac Rally Eg6's Builds
We decided to do the paint work on this car ourselves... should have got a crash course first but we got there eventually. Alot of our problems were to do with bad paint to be fair but it caused a hell of a lot of bother.

All looks good here but the paint never dried right. We mixed it ok and done everything as meant to but some fault in the paint. Sorted eventually

Re: Irish Tarmac Rally Eg6's Builds
This car became pretty my a scrapyard challenge. We picked up ek9 front brakes and drilled them to fit the 4 stud hubs and put standard set up on the rear again with Carbon Lorraine pads all round. The braking in this car is more than adequate as it hasnt massive power.
we put skunk2 camber arms on the front and hardrace camber and toe arms on the rear. Also we got a pair of K-Sport rear arms pretty cheap.

Re: Irish Tarmac Rally Eg6's Builds
We fitted a B16B type R engine that was standard apart from the head being ported and polished. We fitted a b18 inlet and throttle body and Chrome Chipped the Ecu for mapping later.
The gearbox is an Edsport 5 Speed unit with a standard 4.7 Lsd out of an S80 box. The top speed of this box is 108mph which suits the lower powered engine very well.
