Oooo... low blow! Honestly, people bring up the amount of all the Cali tracks a lot, but the fact is that the tracks that close for some of the year on the east coast or mid west are truly amazing when they're open. There's only a few out here that really add up to the complexity and beauty of tracks like the Glen, Mosport, VIR, Mid-O, etc.

Back to the point: Like a few have said, start with a stock car. As you increase your skill, increase grip, then power-- in that order.

Drag racing = Getting a peck on the cheek from a hot girl
Road racing = Twice at night and once more in the morning

In the road race forum I would only expect a landslide lol

Drag racing is a good sport to learn basic skills....road racing is a much deeper rabbit hole

Drag racing to WIN is alot different then just running for fun

BOTH are great and I would say do both for twice the fun

drag racing - race 1/4 mile then slow down for the return lane and go 15mph back to the pits and then staging lanes. wait til it's your turn to go again.
road racing - race 1/4 mile and keep going til you have enough room to brake and take the return lane at a good speed, drive through cars in the return lane and staging lanes and repeat without stopping for a few laps.

Hep, road racing is real fun. Nothing compares to that.
I was dragracing some years but since this summer I got a road racing car.

The only thing you should keep in mind that it is not so easy as it seems :-)

For sure being on a road course is more fun. Definatley do a handful of track days in a street car before you dive into building a car. A lot of people make expensive mistakes when they start building or modding a car and then decide they actually want to race fender to fender on the track.... same goes for autocross.

If you like it and you do decide to race, still your best bet is not to build a car but to look for a decent used car for your first couple of seasons.

At that point you'll have enough experience and know the game well enough to make an educated decision on how to blow your wad.

I think sliding through corners is way more fun then big smokey burnouts.

When you build a grenade motor, blowing it up usually takes longer on a road course. Turning the wheel takes more skill then holding it straight. Using 3 pedals is better than using only 2.

Drag racing is like premature...., errrr... nevermind....

its even easier when you "borrow" parts off your friends/team mates car!

I started in drag, but I was really bad at it. RR is just so different its hard to campair them. RR can get pretty expensive too, You should go out and try it. See if you get bitten by the bug!!!!

Just like drag racing... When you help out friends, you expect only good to come from it.

When your friend turns out to be an indian giver, you decide to be the bigger man and give him a second chance. Then when he transforms into "Wimpy" from Popeye cartoons, "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for rebuilding my suspension today".... Well, you know there are no true friends when you are competing in the same class.

Well, he is promising to trailer my car to the shop for me. Does that marrit a 3rd chance? OK "convic" (Nick Nolte impersionation... 48 Hrs) three strike rule will apply!

No bad experience, just love a little smack talk. Without Renan's assisting... the Bunny Club car would never have been. Now the car is truely Honda Challenged!

I haven't been back to the Drag Strip in 4+ years, and I don't miss it one bit. 2-5 sub 14 second runs for 10 hours at the drag strip versus 3-4 25 minute sessions on the road course, the road course wins hands down.

Drag racing was the quickest way into a form of organized racing for me...I used to drag race every single Wednesday night, and won...a lot in the bracket racing. I managed an NHRA Wally, and a runner up at the only Import Drag Races that NHRA hosted at Sears Point. I was invited to an Autocross event and signed up for the inaugural Type-R Expo at Buttonwillow...started doing autocrossing and HPDE track days.

I enjoyed it so much that I attended an average of 2 track days per month and 1 autocross per month for 3 years, installed a roll bar, seat, harnesses...even before I had a suspension(and daily drove it like that).

I got to the point that I wanted to race, and I didn't want to turn my daily driver into a race car since I had too much invested into the car to walk away from it in the event that I balled it up. So I found the series that I wanted to race in(NorCal Honda Challenge) and went searching for a per-built race car...after a few months I found a car that was ~90% completed, an H4 Civic Si for ~40% of their build cost. I finished the car, went out to a few HPDE events, and picked up my Rookie License, then started racing...sure, I wasn't the fastest person out there, and my car was far from competitive, but I was having fun. Over the last 2 seasons I've made quite a few changes to the car and the driver, and the car and driver are getting closer to being competitive...and I'm still having a lot of fun.
