In my opinion, the scoring system for the Super Challenge is weird. It should be a combination of one's best drag and autocross time added up, or added up and then divided... NOT what they have now.

Anthony "Mario" Crea</TD></TR></TABLE>

I said this back on page 1... I still think scoring the event should be based on the addition of ones best times from the drag and autocross, not simply using finishing position. It'll be virtually impossible to find identical times when the clock will itme us to the thousandth of a second. Assign points in a modified F1 format or something upon completion of the Super Challenge.

1st: 20pts.
2nd:18pts.
3rd: 17pts.
4th: 16pts.
5th: 15pts.
6th: 14pts.
7th: 13pts.
8th: 12pts.
9th: 11pts.
10th:10pts.

so on and so forth.

RE: Ties

Let's agree on a tie-breaker soon. This way if anyone has an issue with the system they will have an opportunity to voice their concern before the event.

Personally, I like Tony's idea for adding up a competitor's best autocross and drag time.

I don't think logistically we could do a composite best autocross time and drag time for every competitor. The results come from two systems and would have to be put into an excel spreadsheet or added up by hand. Either way, it would take a long time to do and would be prone to mathematical or transposing errors.

I would vote for using a competitor's best autocross time + best 1/4 mile time as a
tie- breaker.

BTW - Weather looks better for next week. (Blame me for jinxing it when it's snowing next weekend)

Lip, is there a pre-registration for the event? Or is it first come first serve, 'earlier the better' style?

earlier the better. get in line EARLY. if the weather is good i anticipate a very big event. besides..its always good to get there early anyway so you can pick and choose an area to park and setup.

Autocross is always rain, snow, sleet, sunshine. Drag races will usually be cancelled if it rains.

Mike,

This event is subject to complete cancellation because of weather..

They usually "suspend" the drag racing portion and let us continue, but last year due to the "poor" turnout , We just ran a really LONG practice session until they were ready for the Drag stuff

Should be a realatively nice weekend as long as the small systems bringing possible showers to our area Wed., Thurs., and Fri. move through quickly. It appears as if spring may actually try to take hold this week.

I am now the one who will see to it that the ***** of all blizzards materializes out of nowhere this weekend!

Its possible I might make the 630 mile trek.. so..some questions please.

What is the autocross course going to be like? Size, length, surface..etc

How many runs if you are just doing the Autocross? (I guess i dont mind if its only 3 runs, but It might help sway if it were more)

In the event of rain the whole thing may be canceled..does that mean if i see lots of it coming to not bother going up? What are the chances of it being called. (I know this is a tough answer and very subjective, thanks for bearing with me on that one)

The class list does not include CRXs, but does say "non Vtec Civics. (which i think they would fall under) It does note the "HF" series in Class 6. Does that mean non HF CRXs go in another class? I am wondering where my little stock class 1985 CRX Si goes

I have 16 Points on the scale, so i know whereever i start, I am going up one class.

Thanks,

Jon K

You may want to drive up to DC for autocrosses there. The lot we use now is iffy. Seriously... Years of abuse from drag racers (we have found open barrels of Nitro Methane on the lot a couple of times!!!) and swap meets have left the site in poor condition. Our old lot on the other side of the compound was really good and used to attract people from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maryland, Virginia, and even Maine on a regular basis!!!

As a matter of fact, if one checks our results from 2000, 2001 etc., on any given weekend it was like having a National Tour at our events because we were attracting so many good people. On top of that, course design was bar none. Those people don't come anymore... Mostly a great group of local diehards, but the big names have stayed home. As for courses, due to pavement condition, the variety and excitement is gone.

South Carolina is a haul for a 1 day event at a lot that doesn't have much to offer.

Others may have something else to say, whether they agree with me or not. I'm just being realistic because 630 miles is 630 miles, and for 5 minutes of racing at an event that won't garner you any national recognition, I'd want to know if it was worth it as well... Regardless of seat time.

As for the CRX Si, I'd have to guess that car would go into Class 5 from the get go because of its light weight, short wheelbase, and overall capability when prepared.

I agree. Anything over a 2 hour drive is a bit much for an autocross Kinda psycho. But it is something cool - Hondafest where everything is Honda/Acura.

As Tony said there are better events to autocross at that are probably closer to you. Even Hyperfest is going to be at VIR if I remember right.

The event is cool which is why i would go...There are local events here..but i get to see and do those a lot so its not as exciting.

As far as time..well..i drove 5 hours each way yesterday for 5 runs in Jacksonville Florida, my regular spots include 150-200 mile trips, and I make the 1200 mile journey to Topeka each year. I dont mind being on the road so much.

Do you expect better competition at this event because it is a Honda/Acura event, or will it be the same group you refer to as local diehards? (not that local diehards cant be very good)

Kinda Psycho..of course. But I suppose its better than other addictions.

VIR/Hyperfest The autocross lot at VIR is horribly small.

The other reason though is I have family in NYC, so the trip would offer me a way to see them also, and hit a cool event.

The lot has problems i see, but is it grip issues, or rocky/tire tearing issues?

Sooooooooo..... You I guess you like seat time or something!

As for the entrants, the autocross is kind of diverse, yet the winners are usually the same core group... but that's because we're SCCA/NASA guys. This is what we do!

When a drag ricer comes and tries an event like this, they usually don't return for one of our normal events. But the same applies when we host Corvette Day or even Viper Day. Drag guys don't like turning, nor do they like the fact that they aren't going 120mph.

I just say, more for us (prizes that is)...

It is fun though. Hanging out with all Hondas/Acuras. Just make sure you keep an eye on your stuff. Englishtown also invites people with sticky fingers.

I'll have to say you ARE HARDCORE if you are going to do a 5 hour drive for this event I thought I was bad doing 40 autocrosses a year.

I think some of us need to give the drag racers a ride in our cars - cause it's like 30mph faster in the passenger seat. So if I'm going 60mph through some of the course it will feel like 90mph

It would actually be an 11 Hour drive for this event. (630 miles, towing the trailer...tolls, big cities with slow speeds..etc)

Yesterday was the 5 hour tow to Jacksonville.

This year I have 28 Autocrosses totalling 34 days on autocross courses on the schedule. To go with that I have 15 roadraces on the schedule (9 race weekends) and 14 track days or days I will be instructing at (PCA, Seat Time, Turn One, Driving Schools..)

Yes. I am a Junkie.
