hatchback spoiler mount
I just bought a 2nd hand apr spoiler for my 95 hatchback.
Where can I buy the support arms that is mounted onto the rear hatch glass?
Looks to be double side taped onto the hatch glass and the arms are mounted onto the spoiler.

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
Would that even have an effect on the car being that the glass moves some? Wouldn't any force just be pushed to the glass and absorbed by it flexing?

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
The car is still my daily driver so with it like this, the trunk would still be able to open. If it wasa track only car...I would have had it mounted to the lower hatch gate

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
Just mounted the PCi brackets yesterday on my EK hatch, and I am very happy with it, and seems one of the few plug and play options on the market.

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
that's what I was thinking for mine, the rear glass supports would just be "extra" support.
looking at some inexpensive spoilers on ebay they have the 3" riser "drag" style mounts that would put all 4 bolts mounting to the factory spoiler. I can weld in on the bottom of the factory spoiler extra plate to strengthen the sheet metal. the spoiler hangs back a bit, I figured I could add some braces similer to the picture I quoted for a little extra support, even though it may not be nessecary

Yeah. I dont know if it is necessary, but I would like to have them just in case.
I guess no one knows where to get em from.
Does someone atleast know who the owner? I would like to ask him/her if I can

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
I have to double check my class rules (solo SMF)but I believe there is a stipulation that the rear wing must not prevent the hatch from opening. It looks like the PCI eg brackets would allow the glass hatch to crack open an inch before hitting the uprights and not allow the tailgate to open at all and I'm not sure how that fits into the rules.

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
Yeah, copied out of the rule book
"Body panels to which a wing mounts must
remain functional (e.g., trunk lids and rear hatches must open)."
I'll ask for clarification, but it seems that the PCI brackets would not meet that stipulation.
Edit: After looking at these pictures, I see that the mounts do not touch the rear hatch (I thought the top mounts shared an attachment point with them, but they actually bolt to the roof). So technically the rear hatch isn't affected, however it seems like the rear tailgate would be locked in place, and the mounts would then be illegal.

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
Ok, I think they would then be illegal because of both the hatch and tailgate being locked. Either way the tailgate isn't able to open so it's not legal.

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
seems like it only has one mounting bolt on the top bracket. seems like it would be easy to put in a bolt and pin like a trailer hitch or those hood clamps( rods that have the rings that snap shut). just a thought, might be a way around a technicality...I wouldn't want to use it like that as it seems easy to rip out of the tailgate, but just to pass tech

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
I have the new mounts installed on my car. I will snap some pics tonight.. But yes it locks the hatch and gate together so they are not able to open.

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
^i meant to look at his mounts but didn't remember to. There's limits on the area of the wing as well, I'd build one to those limits or modify somthing like the arp gt wing the PCI kit is designed around. I'm just wondering if there's any ots mounts that meet SMF rules or I'd have to come up with somthing myself.
If the upper mount is the same as the oem wing and the lower points are on the glass, it would allow the hatch to open freely. You might also be able to design a mount which doesn't need lower supports.

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
I liked the design of the J's wing but didn't want to spend $1500 so I just modeled my mounting hardware after theirs.
I started off with buying a spare stock Civic hatchback OEM rear wing, I painted the short 1 inch x however wide the car is, section black. Next I drilled the spare wing with 4 holes to match up with the front/back spacing of the threaded studs coming out of the APR wing mounts/risers and the side/side spacing once the wing was test fit in it's final resting position.
The oem Honda hatch wing doesn't have enough metal for all of the threaded studs to pass through so I actually fabbed up some rectangular aluminum mounting plates for the APR risers to sit on in order to spread the load out on the OEM wing's metal and plastic surfaces. I used nylock nuts and washers to sandwich the riser + aluminum mounting plates (maybe 1.5" wide x 5" long?) + spare OEM rear wing
To give the wing some additional support since that OEM rear wing has a decent amount of flex for the direction the wing is going to get pushed down on + pulled back in that area, I added some rear support legs. I was a little sketchy at first of using the glass as a point of support but there is a local guy here that runs the J's Racing rear wing kit and I figured if he hadn't cracked the glass yet, I should be okay. For the rear support legs I bought 4 bronze looking, threaded, yokes from my local hardware store. Similar to these: http://www.bonusstore.us/p/1-2-20-Fi...-12791548.html
I also bought some threaded rod with the same thread pitch as those yokes, plus some jam nuts to adjust and lock the length of the rods. You may need to grind some material off the inside and/or use some spacers to get them to fit over the rear most fasteners on the wing riser. To fasten the rods to the glass I just bought some prebent (90 degree) alumimum stock. I cut it into 4 equal pieces....2 pieces per side so that they made a "T" shape. The top portion of the letter "T" goes against the glass. The pointed section of the letter "T" will be drilled out to accommodate the other set of yokes and fasteners. A bolt of the same diameter as the round holes in the yoke will fasten the support rod/yoke to the "T" bracket that you just cut and drilled. Zip a nylock nut onto the bolt on each side and you're almost done. Make any final adjustments to the placement/length of the rods and you're ready to glue the metal brackets to the glass.
Make sure to remove all the dirt and oil from the surfaces. I scuffed the aluminum T brackets up and cleaned both the glass and Aluminum with alcohol before I used some clear epoxy glue that I sourced from my local home depot.
Lots of work, and more money than I wanted to spend (those yokes are like $15-20 a piece), but still cheaper than the PCI brackets and got to keep the use of my rear hatch. You won't win any car shows with them, but they don't look totally ghetto. I've seen worse on track cars.
The mounts lasted a loooong time (~5 years). Kudos to the glue manufacturer! They finally gave out last year when I had an off track excursion that moved some panels around without my permission.

Re: hatchback spoiler mount
I have the pci wing. I just put flat washers in between the contact surfaces up top and put quick pins on the bottom and made appropriate spacers. Done. Now I can open my hatch and play with the shocks if I need.
They should make it the way I set mine up. Makes more sence. I think legoman don did the same thing with his.
