Default H4 Weight Adjustments

Here is whats been changed.

88-91 Honda Civic & CRX (D16A6) are being changed to 2150 from 2175.

92-95 Honda Civic (D16Z6 SOHC VTEC) are being changed to 2255 from 2305.

94-01 Acura Integra (1.8L B18B, non vtec) is being changed to 2480 from 2525.

Does this mean Del Sols drop to the 2255 from 2305 also? I would have to agree with this change after Scott and I both built our motors and he walked me in the straits with his CRX. I thought my motor was a piecer or something.

The weight changes are not made just for straight line speed. Other factors must be factored in such as handling, aero, brakes, ect. Straight line speed is important but so is torque for coming out of corners.

No, the DA stays the same. The DC got the weight break.

Its in effect withing 10 days of release which was yesturday. Enough time to make it for our next race weekend. Sept 10. Im not too worried.

While they're at it, how'z about lowering the (H5) 1992-1995 Civic DX weight if it competes in H4. Currently this car has a minimum weight of 2175 if it wants to compete in H4 (it's also fat 2400 for H5). Personally, I think it should weigh about 50 lbs less than the H4 CRX.

Here's why, the CRX makes on average 20hp more than the Civic, has bigger brakes, but it weighs less. Doesn't make sense.

I don't disagree at all. I was just stating the first noticeable difference between the crx and my del Sol after we both built our engines. It just brings to attention the overall deficit that the particular car has. I'm very happy about his change for all of the above mention reasons!

Maybe I can also get one more day out of each set of tires now... Need more time out of everything with these gas prices

I think a major concern about this is can you safely and legally get the car any lighter.

No, with them just being released on Wed., 8/31, they will not take effect until Sat. 9/10.

I'd rather the CRX be dropped to 2140 to align with the SCCA ITA weight, but any weight loss is appreciated. Now I can recast that lead into bullets.

Still not sure why the CRX is above the ITA weight, but the Civic and 'teg below.

Thanks for the heads up Maybe not a big deal for most guys but for some (me) its much more difficult to get down to this weight. I guess its time for a diet. I will better off in the long run, just not short term in a close H4 competition.

I think HC is more in line with where it should be... the ITA CRX is too fast

I'm happy that they lowered the weights considering that all of the H4 cars in AZ were carrying ballast. I think both Jon and Danny will be able to lose their ballast at these new weights. I'll probably still have to carry 60+ lbs and a full tank no matter what I'm driving, but that's better than the 90# I used to have riding shotgun. I need to go on an anti-diet.

I wouldn't have walked you if you didn't suck at the tower turn at FIR. I have some nice video of PIR in May where I didn't get a good run out of 9 and you pulled me all the way down the straights and through NASCAR. I'd say our cars were nearly dead *** even. That said, I'd say that since your motor was built more than mine, you should have had a power/weight advantage, but you didn't seem to.

Sure... gimme some carbon fiber .

I understand that these rule changes don't directly affect me unless I continue traveling to California, but I think if you're going to allow a H5 car to compete in H4 (due to lack of entries or interest in H5), at least make it a fair fight.

FWIW, my car alone with 1/2 tank of gas weighed 2040 at the crossover race. I weighed 185. I'm not sure I could find another 50 lbs to get to 2175 with driver. All that's left is the heater. A carbon fiber hood would help

I'm quite happy about the change, seeing as how I've got EXACTLY 25lb of ballast.

Maybe it's a stupid question, but how much time is 50lb worth over the course of a 30 min race? A second? Two?

A small correction midcorner can cost that much. Checking up for traffic can cost that much. A missed shift can cost much more than that (don't ask Edik ).

Seems to me it's much ado about very f-ing little. Driver skill is worth much more than +/- 50lbs. If you're not running up front now, the weight changes probably won't affect that. If you are in the front, you'll probably still be there, fighting it out the same way with the same guys. Maybe the 1-2% difference in weight will make the difference. I'm betting it won't.
