Re: Got my first sponsor!!! (thumpu77)
Sorry about that guys, I threw that post up this morning and rushed off to work without giving any information about it. I didn't even say who my sponsor was!! So I'm gonna do a whole sales pitch for them now:
Anyway, some of you already know that I'm the install manager for a local stereo shop (The Stereo Zone, Corvallis Oregon) and my new sponsor is Accelevision (http://www.accele.com). Accele has a huge selection of video displays, in-car DVD players, etc. as well as cameras and such. The system I have consists of the following:
(1) VCR-T3 - 12v Hi-Fi VCR w/ built in TV tuner (In case you want to catch up on game scores between runs)
(1) LCDP5L - 5" LCD Monitor (I didn't actually install this, I just use it to line up the cameras then pull it out once everything's lined up)
(1) RFQUADC - Quad processor (merges the 4 cameras onto one screen)
(3) WPLC36 - Weatherproof 3.6mm color CCD cameras
(1) WPL296IR - Waterproof 2.97mm B/W camera w/ built in I/R lighting (foot cam)
The cameras all have standard RCA style signal plugs so you can use a standard patch cord to extend the wires as long as you need them to be. and all of this equipment is powered with cig. lighter plugs so you either need a LOT of lighter sockets in your car, or you'll need to do some cutting / splicing of the power wires.
I went ahead and screwed the camera mounts to the bottom of the car and sealed the screws w/ silicone, when you remove the camera, there's just a little nub left behind. and there really doesn't seem to be any issues w/ picture stability. I was taking some pretty rough roads home and the picture hardly shakes at all.
I'm still working on getting the sound ironed out. You can't just plug a microphone into the line in of a VCR, and I don't want to put some big, heavy mixer board into the car. So I'm trying to put together some sort of line-amplifier that's compact and runs on 12v.
As far as where to get it? My shop can get it, and I can order it and ship it to you, but it will take some time as we don't normally keep the cameras in stock. It might be better if you go to your local stereo shop (almost any shop can order from Accele) and get it through them to save on shipping etc. I can sell you all of the Accele parts listed above for $1800.00 + s&h. There are also a few additional parts you'll need to get. I'll post a list of Radio Shack part numbers once I get it all worked out. You can also do a 1 camera system for much less (the cameras are the most expensive parts) Feel free to IM or Email me if you want more info.

I played that footage on one of the big-screens at work (the footage is much better quality right off of the tape) and people were complaning about getting sick watching it there... I don't think 60" is going to be big enough!!

If your camcorder has an aux input then yes.

Wow.... this would be freakin awesome to have in my car if for no other reason than my damned battery dying all the time. My ideal system would probably be 4 cams too, forward looking, rear-view, guages and pedals. It's be like a pro minus the skill.

As promissed, here's the footage from yesterday's auto-x:
(Right click save target as
Run#1
Run#2
Run#3
Run#4
In run#3, you can see my right front tire *bump* a cone (It stayed upright and in the box )Towards the end of the run.
In run#4, I turned the under-car cams backwards to see if I was lifting an inside tire on the sharp turns.
The sound is really quiet, I'm still working out the microphone bugs.
Please don't laugh too hard on my crappy driving, I was battling a plugged fuel filter (or something like that, haven't found the accual problem yet). and I was running factory springs and shocks (the Konis showed up last friday, and the GCs are on today's UPS)

The camera mount is bolted to the floor. It's not going anywhere.

Wow! That's awesome you got sponsored!
That's some cool stuff! The instrument cam like some people were talking about would be hard to mount I'd think because it'd have to be about where you are for it to get the right angle. Maybe on the door?
Oh yeah my mom said your goign a little to fast for a parking lot.
