Fed. 595RS-R ?
Federal 595RS-R tires...
The reviews on the net seem very positive, especially taking into account their price ($95 for 215/45-17).
They seem more like road legal track day tires which need heat to perform their best & therefore wouldn't be a prime auto-x choice (e.g. more '888' than 'star spec').
Anyone HT members try them?

I know of a few people who have tried them. They reported grip was definitely lower than the other comparable 140-200 utgw tires (star spec, kuhmo xs, toyo r1r, hankook rs3), and that they got pretty greasy when hot.
That tire has been out 5 years and was not the fastest tire in the category even when it was new. The reviews you are probably looking at are probably pretty old. In my opinion it would be worth it to spend a little more and get something else. If you are looking for the best value I would get the Kuhmo XS which lasts the longest out of tires in this category. Dollar per lap/run it is probably even cheaper than the Federal.

You arent going to hear from anyone who races wheel to wheel because they are a street tire with little grip.
I had a set on some wheels I picked up for my street mobile.. ran them for two weeks before I made some kids day in getting a near new set of tires for 200.00 bux.
Wasn't impressed even when driving on a freeway on ramp.

I'll be using the tires occasionally for daily driving as well. The Starspecs tend to have greater hydroplane resistance than the XS's at partial tread depth.

I use them for time attacks and lapping days. Love them much better then most other performance tires. I was able to stick and pass a few friends the were running ra1's. They didn't get sloppy when hot either

A guy i race autocross with has them. He runs them in SMF where he is outclassed by guys on R-comp tires. they are obviously better than most street tires, but they really aren't that great. star specs seem to be the defacto "best in class" for "street" tires. I would go with those.
