Re: EHPS Redone
I should have been more pointed with my post. I'm specifically referring to djborden and his Factory Five. He left the impression that he's using regular AN line that is usually rated to about 300 psi.

Re: EHPS Redone
Good question. I wasn't sure either at first so I used an aftermarket fluid that complied with both Honda and Toyota racks and everything works fine. However, I was thinking about trying Toyota power steering fluid specifically made for EHPS.

Re: EHPS Redone
First, the link to see the schematic diagram, does not work correctly, or maybe it's my computer ?
Second, What about your 7.5 amps to the ignition ? (right corner of your picture)
Have you buy separatly a harness with fuse 7.5 integrated.
Sorry about my english, I'm gonna post alot pics of my set-up soon...

For the fluid return, you could opt to go with a stock setup, but the cost of the parts just for a mediocre return did not seem to be worth it. I opted to get some 3/8" I.D. hose and utilize a $40 oil cooler from Perma-Cool Industries. P/N: 1007

Re: EHPS Redone
I have both pumps sitting here now, with the 95 pump i was going to use the honda swirl pot that had 3 fittings on it since my 87 Integra rack has 2 return outlets, one that goes to the cooler and one straight to the swirl pot (reservoir). So now that I have the 05 MR pump I only have one inlet to the reservior, so i'm not sure how to route the 2 return lines. Any suggestions?

Re: EHPS Redone
Awesome. Having the all-in-one computer with the pump is the key thing that makes this the way to go. Having an electric pump pumping full on isn't better than having a mechanical pump--having one that operates based on load is exactly what we need.

Re: EHPS Redone
Is the PS cooler needed or just something to add piece of mind? I'm planning on doing this soon to my VW.
BTW, Hondastreet, do you think you could make another bracket?

Re: EHPS Redone
The cooler is definitely needed. You need to keep the fluid cool because the fluid is what cools the pump. So the fluid doesn't really need it, but the pump does! I've been running a pump with my ehps setup (using older style mr2 pump) for nearly 2yrs now.

Re: EHPS Redone
Rotten,
I am putting this setup in my Cobra replica track car right now. I have found a guy that has engineered and produces a P/S pump controller (mentioned in post 18 of this thread) that can very the % of P/S assist based off a potentiometer or wheel speed (wheel spd mode is its default mode). It is just a circuit board, you have to find a project box to put it in (Radio Shack) and wire 12v ign, grd, VSS from ABS reluctor wheel and signal out to pin 2 of the MR2 pumps middle connector in the picture posted above.
In normal mode the circuit board has 11 speed tables (0-10). The controller provides 100% assist at table 0 and goes down from there. It also has a "wiper" mode the bases assist off of a user supplied potentiometer (Radio Shack again). He will also provide a detailed PDF that explains it operation. The beauty of the controller is that every table, and the speed step between tables is configurable by the user. I will try to post the PDF here.
In the PDF he lists a source for the connectors to the pump.

P6 connector Part # 90980-12068
P7 connector Part # 90980-10897
P8 connector Part # 90980-10942
Olathe Toyota also has pig tail wires with the pins and rubber weather proofing install that just slide into the connector for a factory looking install.
Additionally, just FYI he has tested the MR2 pump pressure while turning the wheel lock to lock. With the pump dead headed on the locks he only had 750 psi of hydraulic pressure.
If you are interested send me a PM.... Good luck Mac

Re: EHPS Redone
Guys, ran across this post after doing a google search.
I have recently completed a PS conversion using the toyota pump from a 2000-2005 MR2. I am not using the stock lines, just AN 6 lines. I was wondering if you guys knew if the pump lines have a restrictor in them?
When turning the wheel quickly, it feels as though the pump cant keep up. I wasnt sure if the pump is running out of volume or pressure, or if its the lack of a restrictor. Im using a mustang GT rack in a FFR GTM.
Does anyone have any specifics on the pump, such as pressure, and flow the pump is capable of?
BTW, I have a friend that has developed a controller that interfaces with this pump and which can take a signal off an ABS wheel sensor that is configurable to allow boost based on speed. The other option is the boost can be controled with a dial/pot... so you can dial in the boost with a simple dial. I can update you guys on the progress if you like.
I just installed the controller this weekend and it works great... I will be getting the controller that has the dial/pot option in a few days so can report on that as well.

Re: EHPS Redone
rethought out what i wanted to say. let's try this again:
after tapping into the VSS what needs to happen in order to adjust the pressure? is there a way i can make the PS fade out after 35mph with some sort of adjustment/controller? can i adjust the ratio by running different resistors/fuses? i'm not the best when it comes to electrical **** so any help is appreciated. thanks!
