Dodge SRT-4 T2 @ VIR
Look at the fast lap in this link. In lightly spec'd T2 trim it is faster that an H2 prepped ITR? Ouch! 95 degree heat too! Ouch, Ouch!

I knew this car would be respectable once it got an LSD, but Daymn!

Re: Dodge SRT-4 T2 @ VIR (Track rat)
Winning cars at an SCCA National are usually very seriously piloted.
I'd imagine that the winning A Sedan Mustang was faster than what you typically see from the AI cars, which have more liberal rules.
Scott, reminding the Rat that the ITS BMWs are now running 2:12s and the RX7s are even running 2:14s.

I'm not gonna say it because I'll probably **** people off if I do.
However, I will say that a 1.57 is just plain stupid. I don't care what you're driving. Damn.

This surprises you?
I've watched T2 SRT-4s blow past the T2 Camarobirds on the front straight at Gateway like they were standing still, and they sound like city buses as they go by too.

GT1 cars are making a whole bunch of that time on the straights. I'd imagine that the front runners are doing 170+ on the back straight and 160ish down the front.
That said, I don't even want to go 170 on the back straight at VIR. They can have my share of that ****.

Re: Dodge SRT-4 T2 @ VIR (Catch 22)
Porsche Cup cars can do 1:59 - 2:00 flat at VIR Full. I was in the 2:03 range in my 355 if everything worked right.
The GT1/TA cars were well below 2:00. Two years ago it was rumored that Boris Said's Trans Am Mustang was hitting 178 mph down the back straight. The main thing that aids the GT1/TA cars is their torque coming out of Oak Tree and then their 600 hp down the main straight.
Regards,
Jon

Yeah, it surprises me. Not so much the power, but that it has the brakes and handling for a 2:14 lap on a hot-*** day!
Wasn't Neil Sapp's best lap in his T2 S2000 in the 2:15 range?
That's probably a high 2:12 for the SRT in Feb. or October. Intercooled turbos love some cool weather.
...yes I realize the car is probably very well driven too.

Yep, well driven and prepped to the limit of the IT rules....only to have their lap times matched by a $20K Chrysler chitbox with a blower. Oh the painful irony.

Re: Dodge SRT-4 T2 @ VIR (Track rat)
I've got a buddy (I SAY EH on here) who went to the runoffs last year to watch. His report about the SRT-4s was basically, that these guys had to burn those cars to the ground to get those laps out of them. They'd do it, sure, but in impound, there wasn't much car left.
Factory support certainly helps such a situatiion.
And I imagine a Nationally-winning T2 anything is no $20K off-the-showroom car. Whatever things can be done, no matter how trivial-sounding or expensive, have been done. Just like the showroom stock guys going through bins and bins of pistons, looking for the lightest four.

Re: Dodge SRT-4 T2 @ VIR (krshultz)
Mr. Shultz speaks the truth. The SRT-4 tent at the Runoffs was a more professional looking operation than most pro road-race outfits. With more people too. And after every sessions a TEAM of mechanics descended on the two T2 cars they were running. We witnessed them changing engines (!!!!) in both cars before the race. FRESH ENGINES BETWEEN QUALIFYING AND THE RACE! You can't even do that in F1 anymore. To say they were prepared to the absolute limit of the rules would be an understatement.
Plus, everyone knows that Showroom Stock (and Touring) cars only run one race a year where they are actually remotely close to legal. It's in the fall, in Ohio somehwere......

alot of that srt-4 laptime is probably driver, too.
consider that mr. kofod reported that the ITS bmws at summit point are turning high 1:22.x low 1:23.x.
ITS is where the H3 cars would be in SCCA (GSRs). H3 is currently waaaaaaay off turning any low 1:23s at summit.
H1 has never broken into the 1:22s. some of those SCCA cars are extremely well prepped and extremely extremely well driven.....
srt-4 is a real bargain, out of the showroom, for its performance envelop. i don't think there is really anything remotely close for $20k, if all you care about is raw performance and laptimes, as the srt-4 acr?
go dodge!
todd
1st car ever purchased was a new 1986 Omni GLH turbo!

Re: Dodge SRT-4 T2 @ VIR (Todd Reid)
Is the ACR version out yet?
If so, I'm betting that car had some serious dampers on it.
And it is true. For the money that alot of these guys spend on amatuer club racing I'd be running Grand Am Cup. I'm betting I could build a competitive RSX for the money lots of folks put into H1, ITS, And T cars (for example).
Might not be able to run the full schedule logistically, but it'd still be a hoot.
And those ITS times at VIR...
Sure, its an extremely well prepped car with alot of money in it, but at the end of the day its still a 2800+ pound car with just a leetle over 200whp. So a 2:12 is just absolutely wheeling the **** out of it.

Re: Dodge SRT-4 T2 @ VIR (Todd Reid)
las t years T2 race at the runoffs was one of the best races i've ever seen. i've got friends that run in SSC, SSB, T2, and T1. for the most part its still amateur, but that certainly doesn't mean cheap or without talent. anyone else remember whan mike galotti and randy pobst were fighting it out in SSB and SSC? look where they are now. i was just reading an autocross thread about rules and how some cars are built to the limits....definately true once you get to the runoffs. the neon is a great buy, but it takes a lot of added on money to get as fast as the cadillacs or the nissans(anyone remember a certain yellow 350Z dueling it out with sandridge?), great racing though! if you're within distace you should def make it to mid ohio this sept for the runoffs as its the last year in ohio, then its back down to GA.

Yes the ACR is out. And I think they're all sold already. I sat in one a few weeks ago. G. Warren Hahn's dad stopped by to pick up some pads. They promptly went out and kicked everyones *** at the Bele Chere street autocross.

one of the mags has already tested it in a comparo, too (i forget which). it won just about every perf test (blew the others away). but lost the overall to a RSX-S, i think? too rough, too loud, too harsh, too stiff.
boo hoo.
i'd still take it over the rsx-s, but look at my everyday driver!

That may be true for a track and drag... but they suck at autoxing.
Andy - who is thinking of a certain many time national champion who had gobs of rear toe out and positive rear camber to get his stock SRT-4 to turn.... and still came in 5th.

He was also on 6" wide wheels. I think the 16x7's could make the difference between trophying and a national championship, if someone good actually tried hard with one.
