D16Y7 Rally build
Good morning gent's
We are running an EK in the production class of our local rally scene. We need to build our new engine within specs and I was hoping you guys could give us a hand.
Here are the rules :
- No boring/stroking
- No swap (obviously)
- Must retain stock I/M and E/M and TB (yes, all that wonderfull crappy stuff)
Basically, we're allowed to do pistons, rods and cam.
What are the best bang for the buck cam and pistons for the D16Y7.
Keep in mind that the engine will be bouncing off the rev limiters for hours on end so no 13:1 comp ratios or skyhigh power band cam.
Thank you

Re: D16Y7 Rally build
Are you allowed to do head swap? Try a vtec head..
pistons.. try a PM7 which is USDM 88-89 Integra pistons.. or old jdm dohc zc pistons.. they're domed and will yield higher compression.. shouldn't be anything crazy.
I think that's about it for keeping everything stock. GL.

Mill the crap out of the head. ~.1" is enough to get the chambers flat. Should be around 27-28cc's. Modify the oil pump. If you can, change to a Z6 crank.
What are the rules for the transmission? Diff will be the first thing to go followed by the FD.

Re: D16Y7 Rally build
So the block has to be original, what about the head? y7 motor is pretty much crap at least with that intake manifold on it. I don't think that doing anything internally will net big gains with the flow you are going to get. If you do have to stick with that motor I would just port the **** out of the intake manifold, not sure if you can swap a b series throttle body to y7 intake manifold. Port the head. Some midrange cam from bisi. Then I would just mill the head, or swap some other d16 pistons in it and arp rod bolts. You can also shim the oil pump to get more pressure out of it, which will help with y series bearing problems.
