brand new tire - mold release question
couldn't find anything searching "mold release", but i have a set of dunlop Z1 star specs that i am getting mounted tomorrow, and there's an auto-x event on saturday and sunday, how many miles do i have to drive to wear off the mold release from the tires? the tires are full tread and not heat cycled, i've heard people say go to an empty parking lot and do some figure 8's or highway onramps.
thanks in advance.

might not be a good idea to abuse full thread rubber with burn out and donut, mold release will take about a tank or two worth of gas to be completely gone.
some tires have instruction as to how to properly break it in.

you should probably heat cycle them by doing a few miles of normal warm up driving, then a few miles of hard driving, then stop and let them cool off completely.
this may not be possible without a track, but you could get creative. just make sure to let them cool completely.

This is best done by driving a good 20 miles or more to get them fully warmed up, then taking them off the car and letting them sit for a couple of days. Doing that is really the same thing as the Tire Rack describes for its heat cycling service, here.
They describe breaking in tires and the mold release compound here, but that's for street driving. If you're getting the tires heated during an autocross, the mold release lubricant will wear out much quicker.
