Icon5 Best coilovers for the track?

Hey guys! My current project is a k20 swapped 98 ek hatch that I will be taking to the track this spring. (will hardly ever be street driven) I'm looking to upgrade the coilovers and want to know some opinions on what the best quality for a good price set would be. I'm not looking for the cheapest ones out there but definitely not trying to break the bank either. Just a good in between, thanks!

Koni and ground control has proven to be a great combo for a decent price. Some may argu and say this and that, but a the end, it does the job pretty well.

Lol there is no good coil-over for that price. Even the Konica with ground control sleeves is gonna be closer to 1k. If you want to stay in that price range get a good spring like Swift spec R and some good shocks.

Save up for koni/gc atleast. If you can't sack up for that then don't buy anything.

Progress CS-II's wouldn't be a bad option. Definitely a little cheaper than Koni/GC. They would be just fine for what you are trying to do.

If you can throw a K20 in an EK, you can pony up for something at least a grand. Some people just don't get it...you don't skimp on suspension, brakes, and tires. That's the **** that saves your life even on the street being a dumb-***.

This part of the forum is frustrating to read now.

My good friend had CS-IIs on his track EF and the spring/damper rate combo was rather soft. He had some rubbing issues in braking, hard turns and such. So much that he had to raise up the suspension, even though it wasn't very low.

I'm using PIC Select 12k/10k and I like it very much. If you can fork out the 1000-1400, you will have a lot more options. Koni Race shocks / GC(Eibach) springs will be around that mark as well.

Seems to me like this is another one of these posts that the OP talks about purchasing something "for the track", but will never see it.

This site has some good prices. Chris can help you if any question about what you should do.

I would suggest an entry level or high spring rated coil-overs, now-a-days, you can get them under 1500. So save up and get the right one, even if you track your car once a blue moon. I have Tein Mono Flex, and I love it! 14K F and 8K R.

Instead of bashing a novice enthusiast who is trying to get into the wonderful world of auto racing, we should be helping him out like "scook179351" and "JDMFreak" are trying to do.

To OP...Well here s my advice... First, just show up to an autox event with the car as is... Let them know you are new and need some coaching. Investing in your self is the first thing to do... Autox will make you learn at a lower speed and it is safe. Learn what is weight transferts, how to manage it. Play with tire pressure, etc...Then...

Suscribe to an hpde with a reputable organisation that offer instruction for a weekend...

Then go read and read again concerning suspension and how it manage the weight transfer of a car... Cause this is what suspension is all about...

Then start shopping for a decent suspension that offer customization of the spring rate.... Your needs will change in time...

This is the wright path to take when you start...

Why do we have to assume the OP is a novice driver and needs seat time? He may have just purchased the car and is not familiar with brands and companies that make decent parts for this platform. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I would say an "entry" level track suspension would be Koni/Ground control combo to start with. With that you could grow in to it and have the shocks revalved and increase spring rates as time goes on. As others have said, you will need to increase the suspension budget though.

Because I m instructing for a decade and I had a feeling... Advance drivers don t look for an entry level suspension...well I hope!

There s several set up that have made their proof and the koni/ground control is one of them. For about a 1k it really do the job on older hondas like eg/ek/dc... Can t go wrong with it!
