I'm tired of lugging my AC jack to the track so I'm shopping for a lightweight jack.

I have heard both good and bad things about the harbor freight, the Craftsman is alwasy an option, but I found that Costco carries one..

I bought the Altrade jack from costco for the same price. Worked great for a year, now it's starting to crap out. Not sure if I want to pick that one up or just spend a extra cash for one I know will last a bit longer.

I have the craftsman one, and the only thing I don't like is that it only lifts 18 inches, which isen't that bad for just going to the track and changing tires and stuff, but that costco one only lifts 15. But still it would work fine fo something to throw in the back for the track. i would not want it at home, i am way to lazy to keep switching jacking points just to get the car in the air.

The max height on this one is lower than the most popular HF jack. HF has one similar to this with max height of about 15" but they also have a 1.5 ton jack that lifts higher than that.

That's just a Torin "Big Red" Jack - same brand Pep Boys carries. http://www.torinjacks.com/Prod...ID=10 They don't make high quality stuff, a 3-ton I got from Torin leaked oil the first day I bought it. Costco however has an excellent return policy so it'll probably be better to buy from them.

DO not get the Craftsman Jack. In the past 3 years I went through 3 of them. The rod seal goes bad and leaks Hydro fluid all over the place. I purchased one from a company in reno. I will try and locate their info an post. It is the lightest best jack I have ever used. It only cost me like $100 as well.

I just recently got this same one from PepBoys. No issues so far, but as was stated earlier, I wouldn't want it to be my only jack at home. It is, however, completely awesome for toting to the track because it weighs so little and doesn't take up much space in the truck. You can easily pick it up with one hand. I wouldn't expect spectacular quality for $100, but for somewhat limited use, it will probably be just fine.

i bought a $100 LARIN brand jack from costco, i think its a 2-ton, cant remember and dont want to go to the garage and look. quality wise, its not the best, very squeaky and nosey when lifting, makes me scared sometime. i also had to lube alot of the parts right when i got it because everything was so damn hard to move, twist, adjust, etc. but other than that it has done everything i needed for it to do.

i absolutely love my torin "lightweight" 2.5 ton jack. it's never let me down in 3 years of use, no leaks, perfect functionality. only drawback is that's not that lightweight (50 lbs), but for $70 i am not complaining.

i also have a HF jack (like the one pictured) and hate it. the front roller is seized up, and the jack barely lifts my car high enough to get a wheel off. i'd take it to the track for wheel changes, but that's about it.

I have that jack and I love it. It's light, fits easily into the car and is probably the least expensive jack that fits under my race car. I paid 93$CAD in 2005 at Costco.

I have that jack too. it works but leaks oil. Have to refill it probably every 10 uses or so.

Yes, great thing about buying anything at Costco, is that you can bring it back! I have 3 jacks from Costco.

exactly! i have the same one! its alittle slow on the jack up(hahaha) up it works well over all..especially for the price!

my craftsman aluminum jack never had any problems i used it pretty much everyday. i know its rare to have one last for so long.
sadly my friend used it and somehow dropped his car on it and it got bent to ****.
he got me a new one i'll see how this one holds up.

my dad said he bought it at costco..
its an arcan floor jack 2 ton. .. its around 40lbs tho.
not light weight at all but he said it was cheap. dunno he is was kidding or not.

the torin jack is great ive had no issues . i also have jegs jack i like even better but the price was more.

Like Crx Jimmy said, that Costco jack looks just like the 91039 Harbor Freight jack (and maybe they are even the same). It's $80 now.

I have the 91039 jack and I've been taking it to the track (8-10 events/year) for the past three years. It works great! I like it because of its compactness (fits sideways on the floor) and light weight. The only real downsides to it are that it's not as long/wide as most floor jacks, so it's not as stable on rough terrain (on asphalt it's fine), and the handle isn't as long as some other jacks so it requires more pumps than some so you might not want to use it in your garage if you do a lot of work on your car. But if you plan to take this jack with you to the track for changing wheels/tires and brake pads, it's an excellent choice. I love mine!

Doh. Mine just started leaking oil this morning. I've only had it for a few weeks. Hmm ... can't say I'd recommend it anymore.

I'm on my second and third Craftsman aluminum jacks, and they're going in the trash in 2 days.

I first bought two to use in the garage. First one started sinking, even with no load after 6 months or so. Took it back. Then six months later (after the warranty was out), the second original jack started leaking fluid. I added fluid, then bled it. It seemed to stop. However within a week or so, it started leaking again. Then the replacement jack started to sink. Now it too leaks. So I have two leaky jacks that I don't trust to lift anything. I won't buy another one again, and I certainly wouldn't recommend them!!

However, my huge Craftsman all steel jack has worked flawlessly for the past 5 years. Go figure.

I did find an aluminum jack from a very reputable company, OTC. It even comes with a lifetime warranty! The only bad thing is that it's pricey at $250. I'll gladly buy two to replace my two Craftsman jacks if they'll hold up better, though!

where did you get it from? i googled OTC jacks and the only aluminum racing style jack i found from them is over $600

Artic Tools on eBay. The model number is 1532. There is a model 1533, which includes two pimpy aluminum jack stands, but I didn't want to pay the extra. O'Rielly is also an OTC distributor, but their prices are much higher.

The other two places I found were http://www.thetoolwarehouse.com and http://www.tooldiscounters.com. I didn't want to deal with a company that I couldn't find much feedback for on a decent sized purchase, so I went with a shop on eBay that had a good rep. I couldn't find anything on OTC's web site that said that the jacks had to be purchased from an authorized distributor for the warranty, so I went with Artic Tools. I can't remember which of the two non-eBay sites it is, but one was cheaper than any of the OTC 1532s on eBay.
