Anybody here have track experience with BOTH Azeni 215 and 615?
Sorry for starting another tire thread....... to me!
BUT I'm trying to get some opinions from people who have used both styles of Azeni on track. I have found a bunch of autox info, the GRM tire review which was done on an autox course, etc -> no real comments comparing the two for my application.
My intended use: Some street driving (to/from tracks, when I feel like taking the car to work in the summer, etc), backup "wet" track tires, and for open track days when I'm too lazy to change to my r-comps.
Car: 1991 Miata, around 2200lbs, used for NASA time trials and open track days.
Azeni 215 old style -
Pros: Cheaper, stiffer sidewall/better turn in
Con: Get greasy (experienced this firsthand during a hard 20-25 min session with a set I had previously)
Azeni 615 new style -
Pros: Supposed better heat dissapation and wet traction, weigh less
Cons: Not as stiff of a sidewall/possible less turn in response, more expensive
Anyone got some real-world experience that can compare both for an on-track application?
Thanx.........
- Mark

RT215's are next to impossible to find new anymore. And if you can find them, they are over a year old and probably hardened a bit.

Yep.
I think we got one of the last new sets in the known universe a few months ago.

I say don't worry about it the 615's are here to stay. Might as well use them and get used to em. Because at some point all the old 215's will be gone.

I've used both, and I would go with the 615s hands down. Sucks they practically doubled the price, but it's a much better tire.

They lowered their prices about a month ago. The 205/50-15 now sells for $78 at both Vulcan Tire and Edge Racing - not much more than the RT-215 was up to before it was discontinued.

vulcan tire has the 195/60/14 still around for aruond $50/tire in the 215
and yeah the 615's have come down a lot I think the 225/45/17 I was looking at for my Jag was only $118 each. but i havent driven the 615 yet but I really wish they still made the 215, what an awesome tire that was and cheaper than most anything on the road, not even performance tires im talking cheaper than crappy all seasons and no name tires. of course i wish they still made Potenza RE-71's too

The last time I ran the 215s at MidOhio, I could get about 3 laps before I noticed they overheated and began sliding. The 615s tended to last on average about 2 more laps before they too gave up and became greasy.
