Default AllView rear view mirror mounting

Does anyone with an AllView mirror know where I can purchase the side mounting brackets? The AllView mirror I purchased came with a single black metal strip mount that has a 90 angle with a hole in the middle .. it sucks because it forces you to mount the mirror to the cage at the same angle as the cage... so it's pointing off to the right.

BTW, Instructions on how to remove the factory rear view mirror mounting base...
taken from http://www.allviewmirror.com/pdf/baseremoval.pdf

Step 1. Use a Heat Gun
Step 2. Set heat gun to low temperature or between 400-500 degrees F.
Step 3. Aim heat gun 3" away from mounting base
Step 4. Hear for about 3-5 minutes
Step 5. Use the mounting arm of the mirror as an anchor and gently pull the arm down towards you to remove the mounting base
Step 6. If moutning base does not remove, heat for an additional minute or two and try again
Step 7. Use a razor blade to carefully scrape off any glue residue left on the windshield
Step 8. Let cool and then wipe area clean with a damp cloth

Go to http://www.pegasusautoracing.com and type in "mirror" into the keyword search box. I used something similar to these to mount mine.

~edit~ I ordered Pegasus part number 22541

Longacre has very similar mounts for both 1-1/2" and 1-3/4" roll cage tubing.

i think you ordered your mirror from the wrong place.

on the website it shows you how to order from the manufacturer and has a link to order the race version from different shops. the race shops basically buy the mirror and custom fab it to make it like your pic.

i think you should try to return the mirror and order it from a race shop.

Agreed. I bought this one: http://www.stockcarproducts.com/acc7.htm

I didn't realize until later on that the mounting bracket was unique to each reseller. I'm not crazy about the cage brackets included with this kit. Never could figure out how they were REALLY supposed to be mounted - some type of clamp, or welded. If money were no object, this mirror combined with the appropriate longacre brackets would be ideal. I never used the mirror though - sold it to a board local who might chime in if he sees this.

I've used the longacre 17' one.

IOPort has one similar but cheaper at $49.95

man, the longacre one almost made me yack looking into it while driving. it's plastic and makes everything distorted. the edges where the frame is pinches the plastic and further distorts the image.

the allview one is a very nice piece. alot of work/thought went into the design of it.

Thanks John.

Greg [bulldog R20] IM'd me about the proper mounting hardware for the AllView mirror; he's going to mail it to me.

If anyone needs an AllView mirror, hit up bulldog R20.

In hindsight I think you're absolutely correct. I called them back and they said most of their customers fabricate custom mounts to mount the mirror. I guess the market segment they're selling to is more stock cars and less production cars.

The AllView Web Site really pushes you to buy the mirror through a AllView dealer -- which are mostly stock car builders.

Oh well, live and learn!

I agree, I compared the Longacre mirror to the AllView mirror, and I thought the AllView mirror was 1000% better. However, if you go to any SCCA event, you'll mostly see Longace mirrors. I think that's because they're A.) Cheaper and B.) sell mounting hardware more readily.

If I ever saw a company that could do with a marketing dept upgrade, it's AllView.

BTW, Kimi has some really detailed pictures of the AllView mirror on his project Mini Site... http://www.kimini.com/Diaries/2004Winter/

Scroll down to Oct 15th. (sorry, no A HREF anchor)

[Edit: I'm not sure I'd want the mounts pointing at my head incase of an accident tho.]

Interesting that you post this picture... Hose clamps were one of the first things that came to mind when I was trying to figure out how to mount these brackets. I can't imagine they would be very effective and holding it without vibration though, and don't seem entirely safe either. Maybe if you used a thin rubber strip between the various pieces you could get a little more grip between the metal pieces.

tom_i,
Actually, I really like my Longacre but that could be because I don't know any different.

JeffS,
I agree. The mounting looks cheap. I guess they have to beat the big dogs somehow.

That's my car. The mounts are no problem as they're about three feet from my head. The mount visible in the picture is even further away.

Regarding the Longacre mirror, while I've never used it, the common complaint is that it's curved not only horizontally (as it should be) but vertically too. That doesn't make any sense... why would you want to see your knees and the roof while driving? to the AllView, I got mine from Bulldog.

If you can handle the slightly lower position, epoxy it to the stock mirror mounted on the windshield and you have instant, easy, and reachable while strapped in adjustment.

You will be stoked on your Allview! Way better then anything else on the market (IMO).

I will post some pics of my setup tomorrow.

I want to thank Greg [bulldog R20] for hooking me up with exactly what I was looking for. The AllView mounts came in today and included a letter with detailed installation instructions (welding options, etc) and additional hints and tips for a good installation.

Anyone know where to get this stuff from now?

I'm going to be ordering an Allview mirror since I think the 4-panel one really sucks.

Be careful where you mount it. I whacked my longacre rearview mirror while taking off my helmet. I swapped to a wink after that incident. Turns out I like the wink better anyhow.

I cant see **** on the drivers side of the car with the 4 panel There isnt a whole lot of room for flexibility in mounting with the cage gussets - this became very apparent when my drivers side mirror got taken out in the comp school.
