Default 240 whp Full-Race Civic chase down of 700 whp Ford GT 40

Four words: Don is a god

Quote taken from FI post:

Went to Carguys at VIR last weekend. Some nice cars there including a souped up Ford GT 40. The owner was claiming over 700 whp and bragging about how no one has been able to catch him or keep up with him. I got tired of him bragging and decided to shut him up.
10 min video ~155mb

right click; save as:

http://www.smallmountain.us/im...s.wmv

He claimed he was going 160 to 180 in the straights. Judging by the video, I would say he is hitting 160. That car was just stupid fast in a straight line. And he had awesome fire *****.

:end quote:

***** all motor, NA<Snail

Pics from the weekend:

We hard parked the ***** outta this clown

Turn 11

"FullEP3" and I hard parking Oak Tree

I'm still annoyed that whoever lets you drive out there after hours for pics. I want a pic at the top of the Esses, dammit!

Oh, and Don's awesome too

i woulda bitched to the directors about him. took 5 mins and 30 seconds for him to let you pass.... that's unacceptable.

well played on your part for keeping your cool. I had some **** with more horsepower than brains hold me up for ~5 laps (even did a 1 minute drive through and caught up to him in 1/2 a lap)... so the next 2 laps i drove around with one hand on the horn and the other hand on the high beams lol

seriously the gt dude was slow in the corners....

cornerspeed is greater than straightline speed

If you've got the $ to get a GT and then to modify it, you are probably used to being treated like a king. It's hard to say why he drove like a big pile of slow, if my tires cost more than most cars I'd be taking it easy too. That's why I take my CRX to the track. I could wreck it and buy a new one for less than what he'd spend on tires, brake pads, and rotors. Maybe he was just babying his baby.

That said, this looks like ego. His line was sloppy and he wasn't giving point-by's. Looks like a noobie who thinks $ + HP = good driver. As a CRX driver I get it all the time. I remember an EVO that would just punch it in the straights to make up for bad cornering, so I rode him like a trailer till he rearview-mirror-drove right off the track in turn 4 - problem solved.

Nice driving and a great vid. What software are you using for your vid? You may want to check your export settings as it looks like it changes your aspect ratio. The cars look taller due to the video being exported at a different size than it was recorded. 720X480 w/ a .9 pixel aspect ratio is the norm for DV.

PS. Where'd you get the badass shiftlight rearview mirror?

PPS. Did his taillights do LED swirlies when he wasn't braking? WTF?

I couldn't tell if they were actually lighting up or if it was just a distortion in the video.

They're definatly swirling when not on the brakes.

I had a similar experience with a 944 turbo. I was on his *** the whole time around VIR north except the straights. Took him 3 or 4 laps to give me the point.

You could have taken him sooner if you weren't getting hypnotized by the swirling taillights lol

Can't stand drag racers....go fast in the straight line can't make it through a turn. Had a student in a 944 (non turbo) few weekends ago all over this car in the turns for laps, coming out of oak tree he'd give us the point and never lift so we'd fall back in behind. Made me so angry, love to know who the instructor was.

I played drag racer one time at CMP in a turbo civic at a we-todd event. Would have caught the slow poke in the Lotus had it not been for the lack of fuel in the corners.

awesome video.....

we have all had experiences with d-bags like this who refuse to let the less powerful cars pass because they think they will loose them on the next strait.

bravo on keeping your cool and being super smooth through all the ess's, im missing VIR so much meow.

hehe, bunch of rich snob, all they ever done is to brag there fast super car, but when it comes to handle, it's a piece of crap. A lot of american have bad handling because it's,1, heavy, 2, bad suspension set up.

If someone decent was driving the GT40 on the limit that Civic would never have even seen it until it lapped him. Sorry.
Decent driver vs slow driver is what you are seeing here.

Looks to me I saw American Iron (a.k.a. chitbox) getting in the way of a commuter car.

Yea it's a shitbox, but no slouch either. If Don drove both cars, which one would produce a better lap time.
