OP, Check out the Official Maaco Thread @ the link below. Its like 32 pages with pictures throughout.

I dropped my car off at my local Maaco on Tuesday. After being there Monday and speaking with the Owner Tom. Tom was cool as hell and seemed to really know his stuff. After leaving with a good feeling Monday. I took my car back home and with help from my Dad we took off all the side moldings, bottom rocker covers, taped off bumper cover to keep the grills black, taped off rear lip, etc. Took the car back Tuesday. Asked Tom who was going to paint my car and if I could speak with him. Randy(painter)came out a few mins later and I talked some things over with him and slipped him $50 on the side. He said he would take care of me. So hopefully it comes out nice. Should have car back either later today or tomorrow(Friday).
But check that Maaco thread out above.

i have know people who swear by maaco, and i have seen some good jobs come out of there but nothing very old. i think like anywhere it varies from shop to shop and the pride they take in their work.
as far as diy im enraged to see people still use spray cans and freakin paint rollers?? whether it works or not thats still absolutly stupid and even if no one could tell i would just feel gay knowing i had done that.
heres my old car, i used single stage, $100 for a gallon, i didnt do much bodywork so i didnt have to prime much i just didnt sand down to bare metal. did it in my garage. cheap paint gun. i did use to work in the industry but i was not a painter. anyone can buy a bunch of paint and practice on some cardboard, then its so cheap if you screw it up you can just redo the panel.
you do need a decent sized compressor with a good water trap however.
pics, last one is from the new owner months after, still good.

I have painted or attempted to paint a car before, and my suggestion is if you have never done it before take it to someone.
