If so, did it get better as you put more coats on?
thanks for any advice in advance.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I used Rustoleum Satin spray cans, I first sanded the car down and primered using rustoleum auto primer, sanded more and sprayed a few coats more. It goes back and forth, when I started the actual Satin spray, it came out smooth and atomized. Well as much as a spray can can get.
Don't expect the the first or second coat to fully cover the car, just glaze it on misty like, its the first tack coat anyhow. Second coat you cover most of it, but by third of forth it should be fully covered. I forgot how many coats I did total, but the first 1-2 coats were def a bit lighter than the rest. Coats 3 to 4 and up were definitely good solid wet coats. The next day after it dried, there was a few things that dried in the paint (since i painted in the driveway lol) so I wetsanded the bumps off and did another coat or 2 to make it smooth again.
If your getting tons of blotches, its either because the can has paint clogged in the tube/nozzle from dried paint from the first time you used the can, or the spray can/paint is too cold. If the can itself has been sitting in the cold garage, even if shook well, if its too cold, the spray will come out blotchy and thick. Try warming the cans up in warm water or set in the sun a little bit to warm up.
If you don't use the whole can, just remember to clean out the line so paint doesn't dry inside, just flip the can over and spray until air comes out, that cleans it out.
It's a cheap way to paint, most people just primer the car, thats what I was planning to do, but it makes it 10x better if you just use paint after a few coats of primer. Just about the same amount of work to spray primer but better results. I may end up repainting the car using basef or hotrod flatz one day, but I'll probably use those on the other cars I need to paint first, just to see how long the rustoleum holds up. 3 months now sitting in the rain/sun all day every day and still looks exactly the same after I wipe it down with a shammy in the morning.

just finished rattle-canning this today with satin black
i need to respray the roof,a s i used a different primer for this one panel, and the finish is completely different so going to sand it back and re do it from scratch. im going to try and get some decent pics during the week, and once in the daylight i can see any areas that need touching up as well.
i reckon it will go nicely with these wheels which ive had refurbed

Does anyone got a pic of a satin or flat colored car with a carbon fiber hood? Just wondering what it would look like with the whole car satin and a shiny hood.

Dood that Scion looks killer but for some reason the satin paint makes it look timid. I think its a combo of the wheels and the fact that the lip kit is very subtle. I'd go a little wilder with the wheels (brighter with a more aggressive offset) and she'd look nasty. Might not be your car, but it's just my opinion.

Im also wondering about this Rustoleum auto finish paint in flat black.. http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=12
There is also the satin colors, in black: http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=25

well.. the way my paint guy did it.. was he painted the car normally.. with whatever color you wanted.. and then added the flattening agent to the clearcoat. THAT is what gives the car the flat/satin look. The clearcoat dries to a dull and not a shine.

yeah.. it's my car. and i actually wanted to go with the subtle look. i'm not into the wild look. But i kinda am sort of looking for new wheels. (it's a bad habit.. i know.. always changing wheels all the time). anyways.. what kinda wheels do you recommend to go with the car?

car looks fantastic, I couldn't tell from the engine bay pic if you painted that as well? any specifics on what paint the painter used as well as what flattening agent he used in the paint?
I wonder what a silver would look like in satin?...

Damn the pics on this thread are sick. I think I have changed my background now like 30 times. I am going to have to paint my wagon one of these satin colors now.

I think some satin nickel(or maybe dark bronze) colored fat fives would do some good. They would tie in to your headlights and really make it shine through the satin paint. Also, I'd look into a carbon front lip. I think that would give your front end a little more definition so that it doesn't just 'end.' It will clean it up very well. See with the lack of solid body lines, the wheels are too dark to respond to the body and the satin paint makes it look vague. There's nothing to follow and it makes it look like a grey dot. I like the way your car looks, don't get me wrong. Just a few minor adjustments and it will take your satin look to the next level.

sorry guys dont get on here too much! no other pics yet, but im going on a photoshoot next week to get some decent ones. ive also done a bit more to the wheels
the paint i used was UPOL, not sure if you can get it over in the states or not. cost me around £60 to do the whole car think it was 10 cans of paint, i plied it on real thick though because of no lacquer
ive now got mugen stripes down each side too, adn a bit of touching up on a couple of panels.
good thing is come the car shows and show n shine competitions here in the uk, i wont need to polish, i shall just carry a few cans of black in the boot :D
