Painting My transmission?
i got a transmission and cleaned scrubbed it with degrease. and somewhat sanded it a little. i want to paint the transmission gold color.
i have a spray can of Gold Dupli-color Lacquer paint. do i need to use a primer and clear coat? or can i just paint it straight gold on the tyranny. what color primer should i base coat it with and top off with clear coat?

Deff prime anything you paint. Primer helps hold the paint on and gives it something to bind to. Make sure you use a paint that will stand heat. and a clear coat helps to "harden" layer so it doesn't scratch and ding up as easy.

Re: Painting My transmission?
here the pic i painted the transmission. how long do i need to wait to the transmission paint is cured. i put it in the sun for a couple of days now. i used dupli color primer sealer, dupli-color universial gold engine paint, and then dupli-color high temp clear.
im scared i might scratch paint w/installing it in the engine. the paint feels solid but i dont want to damage the paint lol. should it be okay to move it around? i tested on the bottom sides part of the paint with my nail and some seems to come off. as well as the metal breather part of the transmission the paint flake off. but the top sides seem all solid. and some parts feels solid. do i need another coating.

Re: Painting My transmission?
I have good luck with a zinc primer and 3-4 coats of aluminum color. I feel it doesn't chip as easily, but prep is key man make sure its super clean underneath because if there is any dirt/grease/debris its gonna peel right off. When putting it in just use tape and rags to get it not to get damaged.

That paint should be fully cured in about 24 hours, but Im not sure its going to hold up to the heat. It might, its not like its a header or the engine block. The temps on the trans case should be less than 200 degrees, hotter where it bolts to the block. Good luck and let us know how it holds up. Looks good.

misstake? i used duplicolor primer gray sealer, all i had at the time. then waited couple min. painted couple coats of duplicator engine paint universal gold. the last coat i sprayed with duplicolor engine clear coat. two days later i painted with clear coat engine duplicolor again.
the paint feels kind of solid. but on the 1 bolt where oil drain plug and the metal breather thing is. when forcing it it seems to peal off flake off on the metal breather pipe. the bottom edges also but that's about it. do i have to worry about this s%%T pealing off. i used duplicolor primer gray sealer. idk.

Re: Painting My transmission?
you should be fine. As long as you don't eff it up when your putting it in, once its in its in. Nothing should be rubbing on it or anything, It'll be safe in the bay under the hood.
