i know of people that have done the r&i and prep for maaco thing. the finish was still the problem.
it's just not a good finish but if that's all you can afford than that is the way to go.

Re: maaco paint job prep?
It seems Maaco is a hit or miss shop. If you're lucky you have good painters and a good shop around you, but the majority of Maaco's suck (IMO).
Depending on what you go for, the paint may last you up to only a year. Maybe more if you take care of it very well. A close friend of mine took his car there for a single stage. When he picked it up we saw it had a few paint runs and the masking of windows etc. they did was horrible. paint lasted about 1 1/2 before it started fading and chipping. Seems like they didn't prep with wax and grease remover before paint, and the fading was prob due to it being a single stage and him not caring for it.
All in all, you kinda get what you pay for.
just my 2 cents.

Since I hear that maaco isn't so great, what would you guys recommend ? I'm looking to repaint my integra. Would a private small professional shop be better or is there another good big company that would do it ?

find a good quality shop in your area. try to get in contact with the painter and ask if he would be interested in painting it on the side. craigslist is another option but that can be a crapshoot. some yoohoo's looking for side work through there would be bad news.
