Let's Paint My Integra....Tools,Dents,Primers,Fillers,Paint!!
Ok, so, some of you might know i had a thread in the paint/body section about painting my engine bay RED R-81 (really impressed) and that alone gave me the confidence to paint the rest of my car, why not? i have my daily driver so i have all the time in the world for this project. I plan on also taking out all moldings/windows for better coverage, plus i will be removing the tint on them. I have taken windows out before but am thinking i will leave my hatch window intact and just mask it. so far my plan is that in one day i would like to have my doors, fenders, hood, hatch and bumpers painted and the next day paint what is left, roof and *** of the car. Good idea? I know its not ideal and would be better shot all one day at the same time, but overspray in the garage is a mother$%! and would like to cut down. This does not need to be a perfect paint job sence the car will mostly be a track *****, just looking for advice and tips on tools, techniques, ideas anything...
The car has close to no body damage, just a BuNch of dings and tiny dents.
*what method do you guys use to remove small dings for paint? Stud puller? hamer&dolly? Or just use fillers?
Will be purchasing brand new fenders and hood to go with my brand new bumper to hopfully cut down on some body work (300$)
*when getting new black panals should they be primed with a light color primer to help with the shade?
Right now im going to be starting with the doors sence there already off and the motors/windows are out (being replaced). So how should i tackle the doors with about 12 little dings on each one?
Im trying to go step by step so any help would be great, also i will be using a better camera to show the whole process. Just some cheap pics to get an idea (car does NOT look like this now, all thats left is windows). O yea car will be R-81 also
Thanks in advance

Re: Let's Paint My Integra....Tools,Dents,Primers,Fillers,Paint!!
For dents, hammer/dolly is best because there is no heat-affected metal or much filler involved (ideally).
Scuffing and priming would be good for the new panels because you never know what they have on there, and it will definitely help with the final coat coverage.
Also, remember that nothing is ever truly straight unless you BLOCK sand!
Good luck to you

Ok great, off to a good start. I got paid today so i will be buying some tools.
So tonight im going to try to finesse my door dings with a hammer&dolly and see how that goes, the guys on you tube make it look so easy and usually still apply filler???
*does filler still get applied with the hammer/dolly method?
I cant imagine a panel being perfectly flat and have no high/low spots hitting it with a hammer. but what do i know ha.

Yeah, you will still need some filler, but it should be much less with some good hammer/dolly massaging.

Ok well, i tried the hammer dolly thing and i think i should just fill the dings haha ?? these dings are so small it took me 15 minutes looking at all light angels just to find them, most are probably only 1mm deep, nothing crazy. idk? suggestions?
Here is the bay for nobody thats seen it ha

Thanks for the reply, filling them is what im most likely going to do, i keep hearing that hammer and dolly is more of a special craft that take know-how and lots of practice...even though i have time i still want to drive the damn thing lol
I cant imagine using much filler just for those baby dings, the other door is pretty much the same. I will also be ordering my fenders and hood tomarrow to go with my new bumper!!

if they are very small dents i would just fill them and move on anything bigger i would hammer and dolly it out.
what kind of filler are you using? look for evercoat

And as far as what filler I don't really know yet cause my local paint store finish master (love that place) close's at 5, the time I get out of work. But Saturday I need to make it the before 12. I have heard of everclear before and if you say it's good I'm sure he will recommend it.

Re: Let's Paint My Integra....Tools,Dents,Primers,Fillers,Paint!!
^^Do it, its crazy fun ha.
So yesterday i got threw alot of the sanding and removing all moldings/weather stripping. Tomorrow im going to my local paint store to talk fillers and diffrent teqhniques. All this body work and paint lately has really dipped into my motor money
Should be alot more progress over the week, ill takes tons of pics outside the garage with my buddys camera regarding fillers, primers, sanding blocks ect.
But THIS is the biggest dent on my whole car, and its in the worst spot possile i think...gonna be tough to get that body line back
random

The weather stripping you can just pull (im getting new stripping so i dident need to be as careful) from inside the door jam and there will be about 12 screws under it holding the molding above it in place..ill take more pics(on a DA)
and the moldings on top of the roof you can just pull up on. both sides are metal clips so u shouldent need to worry about breaking them

If i was you i would pull that dent out or bang it out if possible. And for the body line use tape to guide you and create the line

Re: Let's Paint My Integra....Tools,Dents,Primers,Fillers,Paint!!
^^yea imma try that sooner or later
UPDATE/FACT:
I suck at using filler. I havent put i guide coat yet so i dont know for sure but i think something will show up, idk.
The filler was good and gave me about 5 min to play with it give or take. It just seems like i dident build it up enough. So if i were to try again i cant build on what is already dry huh? i gotta start all over?
Any input or tips?

Thanks, the evercoat was 32$ i think, the guy there kept trying to push there other brand that was like 10$, i just played it safe ha
The faster i can get these doors done the faster i can start painting the car
(90% of dings in doors)
Ill update later today when i do my guide.
