i like the look but, it's like my friend said, " it's like having a hot *** girlfriend with a great body, but she has a huge cancerous tumor on one of her breast ( on purpose for some reason )"

Re: how to: rusted hood?
wow I saw a eg at the meets the other day with a rusted hood like that. It looks so stupid because his car was so clean other than that. I thought to my self all he needs is to change that hood. Huh I didn't realize people do that on purpose. looks dumb I dont suggest this for anyone.

I you really want to do it, do it because you want to.
Flap disc for a grinder like this:
get it down to the bare metal then pick up some cheap vinegar, throw that on and it will start rusting in about 1-2 hours, its ****ing EASY!

Re: how to: rusted hood?
Wow! That looks good!
Obviously you other folks don't have taste. Who wouldn't want to ruin a perfectly good hood by rusting it? You're just jealous you won't stand out as much with your JDM stuff as the people with rusted hoods will.
You better stock up on tetanus shots, because you're going to have hot womens ALL OVER THAT.
Good luck man.
BTW I have a completely rusted out Civic in the back yard. I was going to scrap it but its value just went up over 9000 dollars!!1

Re: how to: rusted hood?
Ok can some one tell me what the deal is with the rusted hoods?? I cant understand why some one could think that could look good. Down the road when the fad passes you will look back and wish you never let your hood rust so bad. Thats why car companies made paint.
Next fad to come is going to be Most dented car. people will start to get baseball bats and tire Irons and beat the F out of there car to see who can make there car the most dented.

good luck with the rusted hood. Just wait till you start getting stains on your fenders from the chemical reaction taking place. Everything will be shot.

the look works on old cars, thats the idea, its old it pulls off a certain look. cars used to be metal manly and rusty
putting rust on your 10 year old half plastic econo box just makes you a douchebag.

Re: how to: rusted hood?
Started from the V Dub boys i belive. I also saw it on an old BMW dont know exactly who started it but the old Bimmers and VWs seemed to take off with it.. Some of the VW guys got hondas so some of the VW fads got passed VIA that way For ex Stretched tires with low offset wheels and crazy camber. that was another VW fad that caught on with the Honda community. I have seen it on Old School JDM cars so maybe they started that fad then it caught on to the VWs and hondas.. i dont know. I saw it on VWs first then hondas

Re: how to: rusted hood?
it actually started on vw busses and bugs. that was the car of choice for the hardcore surfer. guess what happens to a car that sits next to the ocean the majority of its life? it becomes rusty. that rust became a status symbol between surfers to be able to say that you live down near the beach more than the next guy and you have the rust to prove it. newer vw's caught onto the trend and in japan, they love anything 1950's american/greaser/surfer/californian style.

Re: how to: rusted hood?
There is a special way to create a rust look as a special finish. I took a class a while back at a community college for air brushing. There was a project that was to look like a old air plane metal, and the welds were rusted. Like the old P51's I don't remember how to mix the paint to look like that, it was a mix of different house of kolors paint to get the look. You can do a search on it. It would help you get the look with out getting the results of holes later, and having to get a shot if the rust gets in your system.

Re: how to: rusted hood?
Anyone wonder how the VW people can take the worst trends from the past Honda scene, then go double or nothing and end up with something even worse?
Like a teacher once told me, you have to try HARD to fail spectacularly. IMO that fad is "spectacular" indeed...
