Notice how the inside quarter panel color are different from the exterior? They have like this grayish white blend of mix. What I like to know is, can any bodyman get the same exact color? If it's easy to do then I would like to try this myself.

1992 white hb. Found a black patch or deadener inside the rear quarter panel in the passenger side. Got curious and scraped them out with a putty knife with the help of dry ice. Saw 4 or 5 small hole marks within the area. Part of the panel looks like it's been brushed with no touch-up paint. I'm thinking about paying somebody to do this. I have no experience in body work.

I would like to learn how to do this myself with the help of you body techs.

It's just a protective coating, I don't think per-se there's a color code for it. If you are very **** you can go to a jobber that sells paint supplies, they might have a special camera that breaks down the pigments in the paint so you can have something mixed and have it be rather accurate.

If it were my car and I noticed this, I would get some etch primer and dust some on any bare metal spots, theres plastic over it anyways.

Thanks but I'm kind of lost of what you're saying. But I guess it's the bodyman's language, which I'll never know unless I go to a autobody school.

The coating inside of the quarter panel is a protective layer so it doesn't rust. So you don't need to worry about matching the color if there's bare spots. But if you WANT it to match, you can take it to a paint supplier who can use a special camera to analyze the color..if they have the machine. Then they can mix it so you can spray it.

SEM just released a product called EZ Coat, it's designed to match the color and gloss of factory primers and e-coats. You should be able to ask any automotive paint supplier to get it for you.

You, or any bodymen: Please give me the quick run-down of how to prep the inside panel. I have no experience or knowledge about doing this, but 'am very itchy about learning so. If it's not worth a newbie doing it, please advise me.

I will go to plan B and hire a craigslist bodyman for this job. Now I can tell him about the SEM product called, "EZ Coat."

Dupont spray can self etch has a color close to what your looking for then just blow some body color over it, ussually what I do when I replace a quarter panel at work. I have ha cars reinspected by insurance companies and have even had compliments about spraying the inside of the panel this color rather then just leaving it black e coat

Well, I finally hired some CL autobody man to do the work on my car. I was somewhat satisfied and dis-satisfied. He charged me $50 for the labor and I paid for the parts. He kept the two spray bottles which I regretfully letting him have it. He wanted to keep it.

After seeing and learning from what he did, I think I could've done better. If I wanted to look better from stage 1, I have to pay another $80 on top of that. Now that's what you called a rip-off. It'll be my first and last.

We was debating over which color to choose. What colors do you guys think the inner panel should be? Black would be out of the picture. He chose olive green. I thought it was gray.
