91 CRX with rust...repair or replace rear quarter panels??? Need expert advice
Well i went to a body shop in CT and they said 7-8 grand to repaint whole car with replacing both rear quarter panels. Thats too much money to spend on a daily driven car so i am looking for somewhere or someone who has experience changing out quarters. I live in NY so please let me know. Not looking to spend a fortune but would like to do quarters now. More pics on page 2

i was looking to do this same thing myself along with the wheel wells and rockers. its gonna be hard, but its a shitload cheaper than any shop will charge, all i need is a welder. the shops around here said 2grand to repace them, not including parts.

I would charge you around $1,200 to replace the quarters and fix your wheel wells. Thats not including parts and materials. Try and find someone to make you patch panels.

I hear there is this new thing where they use some type of glue instead of welding now a days due to the fact that welding is very time consuming. I did some research and it does seem like it would work. Makes sense too because when you weld you need som special primer. Glue is also prone to rusting. What they do is flanged the panel so its like a step and use sheetrock screws or those nifty fastener to hold it in place, then remove once the glue cures and apply filler.

Re: (corked1260)
rustrepair.com has replacement wheel arches for crx's but they take some finangling to fit properly, as the body contours arent exactly form-fitting. I wouldn't attempt it unless you have some welding experience with thin gauge sheet metal. Also, if your inner fender wells are rusted you will have to rebuild those as well, which I don't know of anyone that makes replacement panels.
I've been replacing the quarters of my brothers crx for the last week or two, its not fun.

Its just that both panelsare bubbling under the paint in a few areas so the quarters are shot for sure. Don't think its worth it to make patches

I could make patch panels to fix your rust, but it would be close to the same price.
On Hondas I use panel bonding glue to bond the area around the wheel house. When I clamp it, all the excess glue gets in all the hiding places, which helps keep any moisture out.
If you are not looking for a restoration, have someone do custom sheetmetal patch repair on it. Any metal man can do this for you, it's not rocket science.

Unless you have actually done this before, its hard to imagine what exactly is involved. There is many different ways to go about doing it, most body shops cut corners, thats how they save time which is what makes a profit for them. It takes time to drill out spot welds, and that was the method i chose to do. i know they have special tools for drilling spot welds, but i'm not rich and i have just been using the standard spot weld cutter "bits". i'm not done as you can see i need to recreate the inner 1/4 panel.

Re: 91 CRX looking to have both quarters replaced (nuckingfuts)
u mean u have to recreate the inner wheel housings? sounds like fun.
cant u just replace the inner wheel housings with honda parts by drilling out spot welds also?

Re: 91 CRX looking to have both quarters replaced (Newark Built Kandy SiC-RX)
Making patches sounds like its easier but my quarters are bad. Rather start fresh.
Can these still be ordered from honda???
Any good bodyman in NY, NJ area looking to do my quarters???????
