No it's just i've heard this tired argument over and over again on HT. If you can control your shift points and it performs shifts much quicker than a human being, how hardheaded people can be...that's a benefit, not a detraction. The VW DSG is quicker in the quarter than the manual, and that's not an 'auto', it's a two clutch pedal-less manual. A lot of car magazines complement it as the best manumatic available, they don't seem to criticize it like a lot of people on the interweb do.
It upshifts, it downshifts, and it does it quicker- I don't know why some people will be so stubborn. Everyone loves a 6 speed manual rather than a 3 speed, it seems technology continues to improve cars and their performance. It seems like a logical progression.</TD></TR></TABLE>
albeit that it may help the performance, it really still takes away the "fun" of driving a regular manual.
I went from a manual to a SMG II and now back to a manual. I forgot how more fun the manual was. Granted the SMG II made me seem like a much better driver, it is still not teh same as a regular ol fashion manual

Yes, it likely performs better as an "auto," but I would still feel disconnected from the car. It's an uneasy feeling not having that stick.
Then again, if I had a $70k sports car, you'd be hard pressed to find me complaining about any part of it.

Also, as for the people bashing on the 'Automatic' transmission in this vehicle, just stop. Until you've driven one, you cannot formulate an informed opinion.
Quite literally, the car drives like a manual transmission car, it even engages/disengages like a manual transmission car, it doesn't coast like an automatic (i.e. You let off the gas, and it does a perfect loaded deceleration like a manual).
The upshifting and downshifting are on point, literally lightning fast. There is no lag time what-so-ever, you tap the paddel, and that's that, it's in the desired gear before your finger has even pulled back off the paddel.
I'm a manual guy myself (As far as a fun car goes, I'm an automatic guy for straight lines), but this car is the best of both worlds. The lack of a third pedal in no way takes away from the driving experience.

Well said.
-- As for the car I don't like the looks and am not flipping over backwards about it like everybody else.

Re: (Ryan.)
I've driven a new Evo..... same type of trans. Still sucks compared to a true manual trans car. Same thing with my bosses E63 AMG. Who cares if it shifts that much faster when it takes away from the fun of driving. Most of these cars will never see a real road track, so why take the fun out of them.
Besides.... have any of you thought about how expensive its gonna be to replace a clutch or both when they go out? The new Evo's are expensive as [freak]! Plus, the new R35 transmission in the Skyline is having problems already. They're breaking because of people using the launch control.... and guess what, Nissan isn't honoring the warranty. They now have a "black box" feature on the car that allows them to record all race type movements the car makes. AKA, they know when you beat the **** out of it.

this is why people should not buy eco-brand super car.

Re: (mr poo)
sure its auto, but with the twin clutch design, it holds the gears above and below the one thats currently engaged, pretty much the same design a formula1 car has.

So I'm supposed to be like "****, these twin clutch gearboxes shift five hundredths of a second faster than I can, I'm gonna switch even though I LOVE driving a manual with a clutch?" Are you serious? Do I give a **** about my quarter mile time being a tenth of a second faster?
If I told you your car would be faster with a robot driving it, would you buy the robot and let it drive your car around just so you could feel faster?
I understand that some people might like twin clutch gearboxes, and that's fine for them, but don't try to tell people they're being hardheaded by rejecting the almighty tenth of a second. You're supposed to enjoy driving. If people enjoy shifting their own gears and using a clutch pedal, deal with it.

I agree, its dissapointing that these performance cars arent coming with a 6spd option, even if it isnt as fast as the paddle shift, its still a hell of a lot more fun! Speed isnt everything!
