All you gotta do is build it (or rather rebuild it) correctly. I would much rather do that than drive a new one. Sorry, but maybe thats just me. Seriously though, Id pick a 356 (thats been sorted out) to daily over something brand new off the lot any day of the week!

Fair enough. Speaking of the 356, I've noticed a trend here in LA lately, of 356 kit cars...mostly on the West-Side (lah-tee-dah). And I mean I've seen as many as three in a day. They don't quite have the same appeal though, I must say

Or you buy a 911, spin the key and drive it off. Older 911s are bulletproof. If theres gas and oil in it you can scare yourself with it.

Oh for sure, that works too. My pops has a '88 and its got 200k on the odometer. He loves it (as do I), and I do my best to maintain it. But I was comparing based on cost, because a solid 356 can rank right up there with something new to semi-new off a dealer lot today.

I once stopped for lunch a few block away from Blizzard Entertainment's headquarters in Irvine and saw a 911 GT3 in the parking. This is what I saw when I was looking the car over.

sorry this was off my crappy camera phone, and between the parking lot being packed and me being in a hurry to get back to work i didn't have time to get more pics of the car.

Great cars; can be built into beasts as well.

As for what to look for, to go http://clarks-garage.com/ for a buyers guide.

Cheap to buy, expenesive to maintain.

That being said, I had a ton of fun in a base 944, so I imagine the turbo would be more of the same.

Personally, I would look for a 6-speed 968 over any of the 944 variants.

I want to add something to your first comment. They are cars that will end up costing you $8k-10k. Whether you buy a cheap one and spend a grip on deferred maintenance, or pay up for a nice turn-key car, you'll spend about the same either way.

968's are very nice, but they're considerably less common, and consistently demand a higher premium.
