Vauxhall is a subsidiary of GM Europe. Opel is also owned by GM. Remember the cadillac catera...that's the Opel Omega, but was then rebadged. Same with Civic's being Rovers, and the Isuzu Gemini.
The Opel Speedster, as you may recall on Gran Turismo, was replace by the Opel GT. The Opel GT is also known as the Solstice, Sky and Daewoo G2X. They all share the GM Kappa platform and actually use some parts from the Lotus Elise. This is likely due to the fact that Lotus was owned by GM in the late 80's and early 90's and some of that working relationship likely remains.
A lot of technology in Corvettes was developed in cooperation with Lotus. The frame design of the C5's (I frame with front mounted motor and rear mounted transaxle), the LT5 motor was fully developed by Lotus for the ZR1 released in 1990, yet was actually production built by Mercury Marine, etc.

I'll definitely be hitting it up some more next year. Hopefully I can get a good car to bring up there.
