Default 5th Gen Prelude, best solution for Projectors and HID Upgrade?

Well my girl has a 2001 Prelude and she's complaining why her lights suck so bad compared to the xenon lights in some of our other cars....

I want do a brigher, safer alternative for her and was doing some HW on aftermarket light solutions. It seems you can't just swap a HID kit onto the oem lights or it will be very blinding and unfocused.

People have talked of doing Retrofits but I don't know the procedure or how that is accomplished so perhaps someone can link me to a DIY?

Any comments appreciated for this newbie

My other choice is to shop E-bay and it seems there are 2 general types of aftermarket projector light housings:

a) Single projector on lower part of housing with clear LED's on both sides and a socket for a halogen high beam bulb?

b) Dual lights with one projector and one for high beam. I don't like this one cuz it has the silly CCFD angel eye rings.....

just because a headlight has projectors doesn't mean it will work well with an HID kit. That's like a reasoning as to why a porsche costs more than a honda yet both are have four wheels, a steering wheel, trunk and seats.
Besides, those pictures you just showed are pretty ricey. Your gf is complaining about poor visibility yet you're trying to get her poorer headlights that lack performance.

I do retrofits, and I defanitly specialize in 5th Gen. Preludes. Having a retrofit done is way better than buying the cheap ebay projector lights and adding HIDs to those. FOr the price you spend, you can have a true retrofit done and it will still come out better than those lights. There are a lot of threads that talk about this. Not only on this site, but you can also check out preludepower.com, preludeonline.com, preludezone.com and a few others.

what are you using the H7 bulbs with? Most projectors use either D2S or D1S bulbs

E55's should be either D2S or D1S projectors. Sounds like you have a pair of Halogen projectors. Yea, you can cut your stock connectors off and just use some female spade connectors to connect to the bulbs and everything should work perfectly fine.

I'm also interested in this...

prelude1897, I know you do the retrofit's and your work looks top notch. I would love to have the same setup as I saw in your link.
That being said... I don't want to pony up $800 for a kit like that.

If I'm willing to put in the time and effort to do it right, what kind of costs am I looking at in parts to do this myself?
Which headlamp housings are you using? Stock OEM prelude housings or an aftermarket? Can you do the same retro fit with the black housings? Also, what HID ballast/bulbs are you using in your kits? Phillips, etc.???

I know this is a money maker for you so no worries if you don't want to give away all your secrets.

Thanks,
Josh B.

Thanks for the comments about my work. I aim to please. If you're wanting to purchase everything and ship it all to me, I'll just charge you for labor. I only charge $250 for the TSX setup. As for the housings, I've retrofitted both OEM and aftermarket lights. Yes I can retrofit black housing headlights. I've had a few people ask me to paint their housings completly black or just the top half black. As for the HID kits I use, I always use OEM parts cause they last longer than aftermarket stuff.
