I picked up a 2002 Type-R with a check engine light on. The codes read cylinder 1 & 2 spark missing. I replaced the plugs thinking that would solve the problem. When I went to take off the Coil cover I noticed that two of the bolts that hold the cover on were broke off into the head. Those bolts also secure the first and third coil. When I took the cover off it looked like the coil was lifted a bit off the spark plug so that may have caused the miss. But my question is, does the bolt that secures the coil help ground the coil? There for not getting a good electrical connect which would cause a miss? I hope this makes since and I could use some help.

It's possible. Bolt it down and check if you are still misfiring.

bolt only holds the coil down and the plastic cover, it doesn't ground the coil. Ground comes in the wiring to the coil.
