Default Former EP3 Owner

Hello Honda world,

I'm Chris and my 2005 Civic Si was the best car I have ever owned. I am here to reconnect with the Honda world.

My EP3 was dropped with Tein springs, HFP package, Short Ram Intake and JDM headlights.

After a bad accident and poor structural repairs it never drove the same (especially in the snow).

I'm working on images of my ride!

I work as a car appraiser for CarMax and we just moved to the New England area. We are hiring for North Attleboro, MA! I provided a description below for anyone who loves cars and wants to work for an awesome company:

Buyer Trainee Overview

The Buyer Trainee training program is 7-10 months long and is 90% hands-on in the field. 50% of a Buyer’s time is spent outdoors. All Buyer Trainees are assigned a coach and in-depth development plan.

Regardless of one’s experience level, anyone hired into the Purchasing Department starts in the Buyer Trainee position (Our CEO was our first Buyer). The Purchasing Department only promotes from within; and there is a planned career progression in place (From Buyer Trainee to Buyer to Senior Buyer to Purchasing Manager to RVP of Merchandising).

Details of the position:

Appraise vehicles
Host auctions
Purchase vehicles at other car auctions

Appraise Vehicles
The primary responsibility of Buyers and the Merchandising Team is to appraise vehicles on a daily basis. CarMax will purchase a customer’s car even if they do not purchase one from us. The Buyer will test drive the car, record all of its features, assess condition and determine reconditioning costs. To determine the value of the car the Buyer will use a variety of data points developed through careful research. Accuracy is extremely important. Buyers are routinely asked to explain the appraisal process and value to the customer, therefore strong communications skills are important. No used car is alike and therefore each car is assessed and value is determined. No other retailer does this like CarMax.

Host Auctions
Another part of the position is to manage on-site auctions. Since many of the cars we purchase through the customer appraisal process do not meet our quality standards we auction these cars to local dealers and wholesalers. For example; we won’t sell cars that have frame damage, high miles, after market parts, etc. The Merchandising Team prepares for each auction and assists in marketing the auction. After the auction, the Team debriefs to discuss the auction results and any areas that may need improvement.

Purchase Vehicles at Off-Site Auctions
Another important part of the position is attending auctions off-site. This may require up to 20% travel, in and out of state. Buyers are given a weekly Buy Plan based on very specific makes and models that the CarMax needs. They attend off-site auctions look at vehicles they are interested in, determine the value and bid to buy the vehicles. Buyers may purchase $8-10 million worth of cars each year. This is a fast paced environment and requires someone who can make quick and accurate decisions.

The Merchandising Teams are responsible for maintaining the proper levels of inventory for their stores based on market trends, thus the decisions our Buyers make are crucial and directly affect our bottom line. Due to the fast-paced nature of the business this position has a unique mix of analytical and physical challenges.

Hours:

Buyers work a 5 day week on a rotating schedule, including evenings and weekends, some holidays, usually 45-50 hours per week.
