I bought my car with a b16 and the power isn't bad by any means, but if i were going to spend money on swapping my car i would definitely save a bit more and buy a GSR, H22, or something else like that.
but its personal opinion, and the b16 will be quick for what it is.

They dont feel like a D motor unless there is something wrong with it.
The motors have plenty of pep to get you around town but it's by no means fast. It IS faster than the Single Cams but if you are going to spend the money, I think you would be happier with atleast a B18C1. The numbers are that significantyl different between a B16a and a B18C1 but you will feel the difference between them. In our torque starved motors any torque you can get is a bonus. That's the B16's real down fall, is the lack of torque. I have 2 hybrids, my CRX with a B16 and my EG with a B18C1, but difference between the two is pretty significant.
The B16a is a good choice especially on the EF platform simply because it is very inexpensive to do the swap and it makes decent power.

i would get a gsr but im on a budget, i know if i throw in a b16 its not gonna be fast i just want it to have some power and not be really slowww, i had a 95 cx with a B18B before...is it gonna have more power then my old hatch if i throw in a b16? oh yea i also plan to install the regular bolt ons into the b16 intake exhust headers, intake manifold then also throw in some cams and cam gears. am i lookin at some decent power with those mods? remember this is going into a EK hatch

what ive basically noticed with mine ( 92 VX with a 2000 b16a, short ram intake, stock exhaust mani, cheap ebay exhaust) it is quick enough to play with. but your not going to go out and smash a gsr with a stock b16. now driver does mean everything, if you get a B16 and you get to know the way it drives. I think youll be happy with it.
B16a vs B18b. thats close. driver makes a big difference, but from what ive seen with mine is they will pull on me till about middle of third and then ill creep past them. against a GSR hatch a friend has. I usually get beat, but its not by much. half a car or so. and that again is all driver. this is just my experience. your results may differ.
But id say if you get the b16 and get to know how it works and when to shift. i think youll be happy with it. and if not, you can always swap the bottom end out.
whatever you choose, goodluck and i hope it works for ya

Well let's see. There is NO torque. you have to rev it to hell to get it to move, yet it's fun. It's quick for what it is. Mine B16 is in a CRX. It's pretty quick. I think i'm going to turbo mine. If you have swap money get ls/vtec. So much better.

If you want a b16 get one. I had mine for about 5 months and only drove it about 1000 miles at the most before I pulled it out. Ran a 15.5 @ 3600 feet above sea level so roughly 15.1 or so at sea level. Fuel tuned only on crome pro. I pulled the motor before I got to play with it more.
Not really fun for what I thought. I was going to keep the head but found a type r one for a good price and bought a gsr block last year for a good price so I have been putting my poormans together over time while my car sits naked.
get the B16 and piece together a turbo setup

I got a b16a swapped ek and I don't really have problem with it. It ain't no drag car but it gets me around. With the basic mods you said you were going to do to it you should be able to smack around single cams all day. My b16 has the basic I/H/E and a clutch done and I can consistley pull my buddys del sol with a y8 in it and he has I/H/E and a intake manifold on his car and it isn't a close race. After you cam it out it should be a fun car to whip around town in.

i put a B16 into my 92 hatch, and enjoy the car. the car feels like a D below 4 or 5K, but after that it feels noticeably stronger. If you are looking for more power that is around the same price, why not go with an H22?

Re: Calling all b16 owners!!! (hatchy69)
i recently gave up on sohc after 10 years to swap to a dohc. I didn't go w/ the b16 for many reasons, one is my sohc was more powerful and also, me in my car makes for quite a load, so the missing torque of the b16 would make for a frustrating deal.
i ended up with a JDM GSR from hmotors and tho i've only had like a day with it so far, i am confident i made the right choice. the tq difference with the gearing and displacement is wonderful vs. my built sohc, and my sohc made nice tq with a really long -n- flat curve.
i didn't do ls/vtec or h22 because i didn't want any hassle. i wanted an engine who the last person to touch it internally was a japanese honda technician in japan and i wanted a hassle free installation, and this was the logical choice. BTW my car is a 97 hatch

Re: Calling all b16 owners!!! (builthatch)
Obviously everybody would go with a stock gsr over a stock b16...but I got a deal on my 00 b16a2 ($500) and i'm content with it. No it isn't the most powerful thing on wheels but its quick enough to have some fun in. But, if you get a gsr thats gonna feel slow after a couple weeks and your just gonna wanna go b20/vtec or something so just get the b16 and call it a day.
Plus if you lose in a race u can just say "ahhh its just a b16"...but if you win its like "damn dude...all i got is a b16, i swear!!!"

Re: Calling all b16 owners!!! (WhiteNess)
I had a B16 in my CRX. ran very strong for 3years, with ALOT of abuse. manageda 13.78 in the 1/4. I have a B16 in my 89 hatch now that i use for auto-x. getting some head work, and cams. Once again I'm very happy. (on a side note, the crx is getting a 2L now whole diffrent story) B16

Re: Calling all b16 owners!!! (hatchy69)
I've got a factory B16A2 in my 99 Si, and put 200 k on it. I love it and wouldnt swap it out for anything but a B16B. Better manifold than a GSR, better rod/stroke ratio, if you like stratospheric RPMs. Not to say a GSR has a **** motor, but when I think of a B16, i think motorcycle engine. Lots of power at lots of revs. And if you gut yer hatch, i think it'll be a fun ride. And if you win a race or three, you can say "but it's only a 1.6"

i had a bone stock ls in my hatch and my friend had a b16 in his with bolt ons. 1-3 i was ahead but after that he would creep past me. i now have my ls bottom end rebuilt with .020 over p73's, also have a j1 tranny and waiting for the $$ for a vtec head. even with no vtec i love the ls with the low geared tranny. its a huge difference.

Thanks for your honest opinions guys I appreciate it..
so i am driving 1996 Del sol with B16A.
it's a good engine i like it .
it has done 275930 KM till today .
i had my first race with a honda accord 2003 2.4 and won the race . after that my snd race was with a Del sol 92 B16A and he won the race . at that time i found the engine was weak and dead so i thought to face the head 3mm and i did it the car was running smoothly till i had my race with 92 Del sol and i won the race ... and till today i i am driving the car with same engine but no power at all i am abusing the engine every day ... but soon i will have my B18 swap with a new custom supercharge.. so at the end it's back on you what you want..

i was rockin a jdm b16 w/gsr tranny, itr intake mani, it got out of its own way, and took most the d-series i messed with but i never beat a gsr, my buddy had a ej1 also but with a gsr and i could never take him, i could literally see the hp/tq difference as he pulled
