Build up of Race H22A EF Civic
My Old Man and I run an engineering business in a small town in New Zealand. We have been building this car for around about a year now. It's now running but we are having a few issues with the idle at the moment. It's also not finished so I thought I'd post the remainder of the build on here. It's not a big budget build either. We just want to have abit of fun with it. All the work that has been done so far has been done at our workshop, except the wheel alignment.
Here's some pics of the progress from start to now.

Re: Build up of Race H22A EF Civic (Rednas)
^^^Thanks,
Was just reading the post about the EF with Hasport mounts. We just made up custom mounts, and also cut a hole in the firewall in order to get the axles straight, and the bonnet to close. This is only an H22 though. Don't know much about H23/H22 swap.
Also, thought i should clarify some of the photos. The gearbox welding> The LSD we got was about 8mm higher than stock, and wouldn't fit. So we modified the gearbox housing. Also modified front suspension so we can adjust camber. Fitted prelude brakes up front. Made new fueltank. Fitted new start button. Also adjustable rear brakes in the same photo, with modified handbrake. Roll cage. Covered hole in roof from sunroof. Fitted door covers. Re-located washer bottle for weight distribution. Prelude radiator, power steering also. Old civic radiator fan for now. Engine bay not finished, just cable tied for shakedown test run last weekend. Better picture of gear shift, hand brake, start button etc.

The suspension is not even loaded in that pic. next time your car is in the air have a look.
I'm surprised to see the power steering.

I was thinking how cutting the fire wall was going to help (without moving the brake booster) until I realized that the RHD has it on the other side. That’s sweet having the motor set back further. Good stuff.

Nice build. </TD></TR></TABLE>
We'll be using it for Tarmac hillclimbs, bent sprints, motorkhanas, and also track. We'll probably do a 1/4 mile, but only to see how it goes.

Yeah, we figured everyone else ditch's it. Why not be different aye!?!?
Plus it will come in handy for motorkhanas. We had another civic that we stripped out and used for racing. We welded the diff in it and it would damn near break your wrist's in these events. This one has LSD but power steering will help out also. I dont think we'll be loseing too much horse power. Plus we weighed the car on monday just been. Car weigh's 780Kg's without driver, so power to weight isn't really an issue.
Here's a random vid of the start button also:

I dont think I've posted that already.

Re: Build up of Race H22A EF Civic (slow *** si 1)
Worked most of today on getting the wiring sorted out. We managed to find and fix all problems, and it looks as though we may be on track to racing it this weekend. The wiring is now ready for a tidy up, and we still need to mount the instrument cluster.
We have gotten rid of most of the factory wiring now, and have a large box in the corner with all the bits that have been removed.
Managed to sort out my drivers side door panel today also.
Hopefully if we do end up racing it this weekend I'll be able to get abit of in-car footage.

Re: Build up of Race H22A EF Civic (Deacan)
Weather was kinda crap, but it wasn't pouring down, however the track was really greasy. Darcy did his practice laps, then I did mine, and both times the camera didn't switch on. Then, we sorted out a surge problem, and the camera, and the car was going sweet. So off Darcy went, he was racing against a 13b powered Escort. I wont give too much away. Then it was my turn. Off I went, beat the other guy off the line. Into the first corner sweet as, round through the next two aswell. Then the back stepped out and I went way sideways, But managed to hold it and kept going without loseing my place. Through the next few corners with ease, then braking for the big left hander on the way in, the back stepped out again. But this time it went really quick. The car oversteered into the apex, and hit the only tire on the course for miles. Unfortunately, these tires, as I found out, are anchored by rather large pieces of concrete!!!! Mad This knocked out our
alignment and god knows what else yet. Pushed the front bumper in a little, and broke the lip also. So I waited for all the other cars to go by, and limped slowly back to the pits with wierd noises coming from up front.
Pissed me right off!!! Mad
Then to make it worse, I pulled the camera out and watched the footage. I dont think I could have avoided the tire anyway after seeing it. BUT!!!!! I then I went back abit further to check out my drifting, forgot to fast forward again, and started tapeing the other cars leaving the line. I managed to tape over most of my race, including the drifting, and the crash.
Well, I was pissed off!!! Not only did I effectively end our day there, But i also taped over the crash.
Anyhuew, that's what happened on it's first real outing. Apart from that, it seemed to be going good. Although, I'm not sure if the Vtec was engageing. I've only ever driven an Sir Civic about 5 years ago, and when Vtec kicked in, I could feel it and hear it. I don't think it was working on our car..... I dont seem to hear it on Darcys vid.
Here's the vid anyway. Darcy is racing against a 13B powered Escort that has been worked abit.

Re: Build up of Race H22A EF Civic (hondaZvic)
Got a few picks of the damage today. Not much done but it could have been bad. Here's where the tire hit the bumper and broke the lip. Also bent the stay attached to it and smashed the plastic mount that holds the stay on.
Then with the car on the hoist we managed to track where it went.
In this pic there is a little lip in the centre of the photo, that used to stick out.
There were also scuff marks on the gearbox housing, so thank christ that block of concrete never followed the tire under the car.
Also here is a few of the Instrument cluster installed (for now), and of where we mounted the fuse box.
Also the isolater switch arrived today so that needs to go in also.

Re: Build up of Race H22A EF Civic (Deacan)
Went to another track day a couple of weeks ago. Civic handled well, although still no Vtec, and wicked surge problems out of all the left handers. Here's the vid.

We have found the cause of the problem now. Faulty MAP sensor. Fixed it and tried on a private road today. Vtec is now working.

Re: (abelcr)
Well, we have installed the other seat now. I have made up a plate for the passenger to brace themself on. We installed a monster tach and shift light just to make life abit easier at high speeds. In fact, when I installed the tacho I found that the original was reading quite abit off, so that that was lucky I guess.. My old man made up a wing to give us abit more downforce and keep the car stable at higher speeds, and it seems to work well so far. We sorted out the surge problem also and now the car is going sweet. Raced it on the weekend and placed 5th out of 57 competitors (all sorts of cars raced)..
here's the photos and a link to the bentsprint anyways:
Enjoy!!

Couple more vids here.

Took the Civic to a track day with NZHondas.com car club. Had a great day and saw some amazing cars. The Civic was going really well, although we are having abit of trouble with the suspension at the mo. To be expected though really... it is still on standard suspension. I got owned by an Eg civic in one of the vids. He was too damn quick through the corners for me. But i'm still happy with how it ran. We are looking into getting better suspension for it now, and we have another track day coming up on the 1st of Dec. Hopefully we get the suspension first so i can see how much difference it makes (same track).
We are also looking into maybe doing a dual throttle body set-up. Will keep you posted on that one.
Cheers
