B16 vs LS tranny wise....... discusion about RPM factor of daily driving.
well i wanna get the B16 tranny but i travel on the freeway somewhat a lot. I'm concered about too much reving(RPM=runins people motors(faster that is).)
So people what have this tranny..can you tell my what rpm you are at in 5th gear when going: 50-60-& 70 mph.
how about the LS tranny going at the same speeds?.. how high is your RPM?

80mph=4400rpm -b16 it's really not that bad
DANG!!!!
4,400 RPM at 80mph? That would get very annoying very quickly if you drive freeway commute.
My LS tranny is turning ~3350- 3400 RPM at 80mph. Too much over that and you just start dipping into bad gas mileage if you cruise at 80 for long distances. I've tried cruising at 'only' 4000 RPM and the gas mileage is ~ 25.
Compare that to my city MPG of 30-31 and 34 highway (at 75mph).
I hope this helps you out some, Charlie.

you dum ***** you want your gearing to be as close as possible for the best acceleration. Its not like our cars get bad gas milage. I have a B18c built with a UDSM Type R tranny and a 478 final. Yes I'm sitting at 5k almost all the time on the freeway. And I love it and there is no need to down shift to pass someone. Thise is the way honda intended it to be.

Really, please don't say anything else in this thread.
YOU might want the tightest gearing for acceleration, but here in the real world, I wouldn't even accept money to keep my car at a constant 5K RPM for 40-50 minutes a day non stop.
Idiot.
For the record, I don't have to downshift to pass someone either.

when I use to drive to the races at ROck Falls, I would fill up close to full(maybe a little over 3/4 tank)and cruise around 85-90mph all teh way tehre....I was in vtec the whoel way down to Eau claire. When I get to the track, I would be around 1/4 tank left....
this was a GSR motor and tranny...that was back in the days...

My 91 LS trans turns 3800 at 80mph with 16" tires. Close to the stock crx si trans.
