92/93 YS1 and 94-01 Y80/S80 - 5th Gears Exchangable?
Okay so I've got a 1993 Integra GS-R YS1 cable tranny and I'm installing all new bearings and seals, and while I'm in there I want to lower the 5th gear from it's retarded-short .875 ratio to something more highway friendly.
I know I can take the .742 5th gear set from a 92/93 YS1 LS/GS/RS tranny, but I would ideally like to have the even taller .714 94-01 Integra S80/Y80 5th gear from the LS/GS/RS model.
Since I'll have the already shorter 4.400FD I want that extra low 5th gear to offset it. This is my DD Civic wagon and I want lowest 5th gear cruising rpm. I've got an ITR set-up in my other car if I want short gearing, speed, etc.
The 92/93 YS1 has the same mainshaft diameter as the 94-01 trannies, and it takes the clutch. I know people have machined the casing and even installed facory Type R helical LSDs in them, and I've heard of people swapping all guts (gears included) but I'd like to hear from others with personal experience having swapped gears between the two trannies.
I plan on buying the gears new from Acura, so if I bought the Y80/S80 ones and they didn't work I'd be screwed. I'd buy a used beat-*** tranny if people didn't still want ridiculous amounts for them, and anyways I literally only need the 5th gear alone.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: 92/93 YS1 and 94-01 Y80/S80 - 5th Gears Exchangable?
Well I did some extra research and I've come to the conclusion that it should work based on the fact that the 93 GS-R, LS, and 94 LS all have the same 5th/R synchro sleeve set part number 23626-P21-335. I'm sure if I researched other years and models I'd probably find the same part numbers apply to all of the USDM 92-01 Integra trannies regardless of model/trim level.
Of course I will post my absolute findings after I install the 5th gearset so that this topic may serve as a tech resource for others wondering the same thing.
I figured it'd work, but I wasn't willing to bet $110.00 (the cost of the gears) that it would without some more info.

so basically all you bought that was gear swap related was
5th gears (main and counter shafts) and 'synchronizer sleeve set' p/n: 23626-P21-325 (as mentioned here) aka 23626-P21-335
