did u rev match? the s2k first gear is hard to downshift into if over 10 mph. and second gear is known to be notchy. is your car new? was this during the morning when tranny was cold?

Never force the gear in. EVER
Always rev match. If you are idling, you should try reverse first, then try first. I sometimes put it in second, then first with the clutch held in the whole time. Forcing the gear on the car is just asking for trouble.

I also sometimes give the engine a bit of gas to ease it into first at a stop. How old is your tranny fluid? MIght wanna look into that if you haven't changed it in a bit.
