Default s2000 clutch question

well my clutch is pretty much shot, i can barely accelerate. i just got a DUI so i need to know how bad it would be if i just changed out the disc without changing the flywheel and pressure plate. I heard u cant resurface the flywheel on an s2k, should i just have it done or leave it how it is? how long would just changing the disk out last? i will get a new setup later but i need to be able to drive, its REALLY bad. Thanks!

Hmm don't know your states DUI policy, but we lose our license after the first DUI. But anyways, it all depends on how bad the pressure plate and flywheel are glazed over. How many miles do you have on that clutch? I haven't heard that you can't resurface the flywheel, but chances are, if you try and just put a new clutch disk in, it will probably toast the clutch a lot sooner, and you'll be in the same situation you are now.

you will hate yourself for doing it, trust me. changing the clutch in this car is not easy. at minimum it's a 10 hour job. maybe there is guys that have done it a little faster but they must do it frequently. SAVE SAVE SAVE and then do it ALL AT ONCE. i hate myself right now...buying the clutch and flywheel isnt the problem for me, its the install that i [freak]ing hate

Definitely change it all. The parts aren't that expensive: getting to them is just as much, if not more.

act=garbage just because the presure plate is really hard doesent mean that it is better. i bought my car with a act clutch in it. the kid had it in there for 9 months before i bought the car. I blew it up in about 2 months after. So 11 months of use made the thrust washers on the crank wear down and gave it a little more then a 1/8 of play on the crank when there should be none. buy a compititon clutch it is 1000000x better of a product. im running a stage 5 with a steel flywheel made 500 wheel and the presure plate is way softer and still grabs hard. (u should only need a stage 1 though) and it was 900 for all of it

I have the ACT HD (installed about 18 months ago) and it still works great. I haven't heard any one else complain about ACT. Poor installation might have been your issue: proper torque in the correct sequence, etc. I'm also running the Fidanza flywheel.

It's not the "best" course of action by any stretch of the imagination, but I have done this for a customer before. He broke his diff and murdered his clutch at the same time. Was so broke I had to track him down a used diff and cut him a deal on labor just so he could afford to fix it all.

Hey, it was his DD and I look out for people when I can afford to

Either way, what I did to try and prolong the life of his clutch was take a rotary air sander and lightly go over the friction surface on the flywheel just to clean up the glazing on the surface. Keep in mind this does nothing for imperfections or hot spots but it will help if your flywheel isn't trashed. Don't try to get all crazy and make it look new, you will ruin it but a light scuff all the way around will be better than nothing and give the new clutch something to break into.

I did this for him back in June of last year and if you can't deduce from the simultaneous destruction of both diff and clutch, he is abusive. The car is still driving fine today so it will hold for a while at least under abusive driving.

Once again, I wouldn't recommend it but if you can't afford the flywheel because of lawyers and such, it's what I would do in a pinch.
