Question About Power Door Locks
I just got a 2003 S2000, and find it very strange that the only way to automatically open the passenger-side door (ie. without leaning across the car and physically unlocking it), is to remove the key from the ignition and press the unlock button. Two questions: Is this correct; and, what was the Honda technician smoking when he made this decision?

ok if you were designing it where would you put the button? i don't really think there is a place it would fit. unless you are 4'11 you should be able to reach over and unlock it

Uh...I'm sure there is room for a tiny little switch near the window/mirror controls or even the roof control.
Manually opening the door is not a matter of difficulty, it's just strange. Almost every modern car has the ability to lock/unlock all doors with a single switch.

Whoah whoah whoah whoah. Hold on now. What do you mean unlock button? We have an unlock button?
The only way I know how to open the passenger side is to click the key fob twice, or reach over and manually unlock it? Am I missing something?

"NUFF SAID"? Haha...that first reply was the most useless comment in this thread (no offense to the poster). The idea that a lock/unlock switch is somehow a luxery feature that belongs in a Lexus and not in a $32,000 Honda is ridiculous.

you are honestly the first person i have heard of to comment on this..
yes we all know how it works and you have ot lean over or pull the key out but it doesnt bother anyone else ....
Honda just put the seat in the right side for looks i say

Disagree with this^^. i agree that it was bad design. if this car was "so sports car, u shouldnt need a switch" for the pass side, then it wouldnt have a ****** cup holder either! honda but some excess **** int he car (everything from cupholder to AC), but couldnt manage a small switch to unlock the door? jesus. this come standard in everything from kias to for focuses
it just seems like the ball got dropped there. it would be cake for honda to design, add no extra weight, and could be hidden well. they found a place to putt tweeters on ap2's which are much bigger than a switch.
and there is a way to rig it to something. some guy has a write up on how to do it to the roof switch. i forget the guys site, but he has all kinds of s2k tricks. the roof switch does the door only as long as the ebrake i down, but if your doin the roof with the ebrake up, then it will unlock/lock ur door as well.

All I was saying is that does it really matter that you might lean over 3 feet to unlock? Is it that big of an inconvenience? If ever I have passengers, I would get the bright idea to hit unlock twice BEFORE I got into the car.

I understand your point, however I still think it's really weird. I never expected to have to justify the existence of an unlock switch in a car. It's just a normal part of any modern car.
You don't always know that you will have passengers when you initially get into your car. Again, it isn't a matter of inconvenience...it just doesn't make any sense. There's absolutely no logical reason for Honda leaving it out. I would seriously love to have a conversation with the person who made the decision...just to understand the thinking behind it. Was it simply overlooked? Were they trying to save a few dollars here, a few dollars there to keep the price down?

i have commented about this on s2ki and it bothers me too, and many other ppl. its annoying, and yes, i expect more.
yes, you get used to it. but there ARE solutions.
first, you can do what modifry does with this roof switch or any other switch.
you can also rewire the keyless entry module under the dash. and splice the passenger door lock trigger to the driver door lock trigger and the passenger door will unlock EVERYTIME you unlock the driver door. both doors with lock as usual with the remote.

edit: ha, i just noticed bob @ modifry posted my original idea on his website. im pretty sure he learned it from me, an 02 owner in 06.

I find this annoying too. It's not as though it's really a weight savings measure - there's obviously already the electric bits there to unlock and lock the passenger side door remotely (else the remote wouldn't work).

This was one of the first things I noticed when I first got my S. But I dont see the big deal and why the *** it metters. You either hit the key fob twice or lean over. Or are you trying to be that creepy dude that wants to lock someone in the car with him.

tired of people justifying and standing behind every decision honda ever made designing the s2000.. if it lacks something we automatically get the "its a pure sports car" answer.
As said earlier I dont believe that... this is something that could have been changed w/o any weight savings.. and any car can do this. Right now my opinion on this is that I just wasted 5 mins reading and responding to this though lol.

oh yeah, heres another simpler solution. bypass the remote lockout on the keyless module. then you can just press the remote to unlock the doors while its running.

I really can't believe that is being discussed. The car is 69 inches wide for christ sake. stop being so lazy and petty. it isn't necessary thats why there isn't one.
