Default New owner..some questions

New owner here of an '06 couple of questions.

What do the stock wheels weigh?

Oil cooler worth it for SCCA?

What size are the door speakers and head rest speakers?

Anyone running copper plugs? i.e. NGK 4291's? if so why not?

What steps have you taken to take care of the convertible top?

When I first got the car with 24 miles on it, when I would start it you would hear a slight knock. It has since gone away. Also sometimes restarting the motor takes about 1-2 seconds longer to get going. Typical of new motor?

Other than that I am very pleased with the handling of the car.

BTW if you have any pics of a black s2000 on bronze wheels please post the pics.

Thanks!

1) Front: 17.6lb; Rear 20.5lb for the '04-'05...wheels changed for '06 so they may be different.

2) SCCA what?? Autox...not worth it.

4) Is there an advantage to the copper plugs. The stock NGKs for '00-'05 are platinums...I think the same for the '06.

5) I've used nothing but water and terry cloth towel for 5 years on my top and still looks great. Many have used various top cleaning products and some have had dissapointing effects.

6) Are you saying that the car is difficult to re-start after being shut off for a short time? Yes, some S2ks have that problem...heat soak is a significant problem on the car. Maybe different on the '06 with the drive-by-wire throttle.

1)not bad at all for stock wheels.

2)Just trying to figure out ways to reduce heat soak. Might put some spacers in the hood hinges...might be too ricer and kill the sleek lines of the car though.

3) I figured out the speakers sizes from crutchfield.

4) from what I know platnium is not as good as a conductor as copper would be. I also understand that platnium runs hotter than copper.

5)what about scotch guard?

6)So I can summize it is heat soak causing it.

I appreciate your input.

2) Not much can be done about heat soak other than a CAI (research the CAI's before you buy...some have risk of water injestion but they also have the best documented gains) or snorkle (Spoon...spoon knock-off from eBay) and venting the hood. Hondata makes the insulating gasket, which may help...but is a bitch to install (just did it with help this weekend took 6 hrs). If you don't mind cutting your brand new hood there is a diy mod to vent (http://www.s2ki.com/forums/ind...24009) that looks pretty sharp. If you are wanting to autox and want to stay in stock class then the only thing you can do is bring a spray bottle of water to cool off the intake from manifold forward between runs.

4) Saw some testing done many many years ago on a Miata with several different plugs (stock vs platinum vs splitfire-style vs iridium). All dyno runs were within a couple hp...no statistically clear improvement. Might be a benefit if you are going FI to run a different plug, but otherwise you probably won't feel much of a difference.

5) Unless they changed for '06, the top is not canvas. It is actually a vinyl weave that looks very much like canvas. I wouldn't put Scotch-guard on there....nor Armor All (have seen ugly splotches result when someone did that). You can upgrade to a real canvas top, which looks great (saw the Robbins top on an S2k this weekend), and may come from the maker with Scotch-guard...cool cuz water beads on the top as if waxed.

6) That would be my internet diagnosis. I know my car will take a second or so more to re-start if I'm out running stop and go errands on hot days.
