Default Insurance costs for an s2000?

I am thinking of getting a S2000 preety soon but I would like to see how much insurance everyone is paying. I am 19 and have a feeling they are going to give it to me rough. Please list your Age and Model year along with your type of coverage.

Thanks !

i am 20 (turning 21 in a couple days) i just got my s2k insured w/ my own policy, $100,000/$300,000 coverage for $1600 a year.

A lot cheaper than my integra under my parents policy (they have perfect driving records too, geico just plain sucks ***)

for age 19 - expect 1600-2600 a year for insurance and that would be the full coverage-bare minimum amount. estimate a little more, plus incidentals like tickets to jack up the insurance. don't think you are ticket-free or you will not speed with the car, it happens and they - the revenue assessors - will target your *** for income.

also if you are trying to cram it in on a budget - think twice, and price out all the other expenses as well - tires, oil changes, etc. just to make sure you have it all in place. and not to mention - gas. and that's not just commuter time either, it's fun full on vtec twisties!

if you are just heading to college, then think twice about it. many do it, many would rather not concentrate that much on the care and dingless life of their car and would rather dedicate a few less hours.. make that many hours, for just a few years without worrying about how their car is doing in the overcrowded university parking lots.

if you take the plunge - have fun and go out to an autocross or driver education event before throwing on a CAI or other mod that you will never see or feel the full impact of it's potential. and.. it's a good way to learn how to drive.

I agree with Mr. Bagel, you need to make sure you take a lot into account before buying this car. If you end up getting this car make sure you avoid tickets...you will see the insurance rates soar like a rocket.\

22 yr old 0 tickets and 130 a month (2000 S2K)

I have no idea why the hell mine is so high, maybe because the car is registerd in New Orleans and that is like number one drunken/high crime city.

but your profile states - texas? can you see if it will decrease any further if it is insured in texas?

if the lein is in LA, you could get the insurance in TX if that is your primary residence (over 51% of the year).

On the topic of insurance...One thing that really sucks is that in TX if you are under 25 you can't claim a "Sunday Driver". My S2000 is primarily my weekend car but they stick me with it as my main driver so they can charge me more. My beater is a 97 Nissan truck. I could be saving 800 or more a year if it were for that!

28 years young, and this is military only insurance, that is why it is so cheap. I go thru USAA, you can get it as long as someone in your family is active or retired military....

Geico is the only reason I could afford to drive an S2k. I am paying 1354 for 6 months.... that is for an 88 CRX HF and 00 S2k ..........

Every other place wanted 3600 a year or MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking of getting one soon... but I have like 2 tickets and 3 claims. One I got in a wreck my fault, another when my car was stolen, and the other recent when some lady rear-ended me and totalled my car (her fault). Im 19 in TX how much should I expect through Allstate?

Fricking allstate wanted 3900 a year for me (CT) 1 Ticket >15MPH, 1 Ticket, Illegal Turn, 1 Not at fault accident. That's it.

CT, MA, NJ have a bad rates though.... good luck to you.

Since you are so young and this is a sports car, they most likely will "stick it to ya" if you are to insure under your name. I would definitely have it insured under your parent(s) name. Fortunately, you are not in NJ like myself, where insurance rates are beyond ridiculous.

i agree with MRSi, im only 18 and paying $105/month full coverage thanks to good ol' dads insurance policy. So the best thing to do is go under your parents policy it will save you tons of money.

I am under my parents policy, but I am still the main diver. My parents will not put that car under one of them, they are not going to lie and then have me mangled in a car accident in the S2000 and the insurance start asking questions.

I think my rates are far worse than your NJ rates, I pay 5000+ a year for a 02 Tacoma Prerunner. No tickets on record, no accidents, no claims ever.

Lie? Screw that. If you are privileged enough to get an S2K at such a young age, I hope you do your best to drive as responsibly as possible. Get your parents to put it under their name and use them as a primary driver unless you want to continue to pay insanely high insurance charges. Just respect the car and your parents and you won't have any problems.
