here is some more pics as promised. The seat is in, wiring all in and just waiting for the ecu to be here on monday. The hatch latches are installed and dont worry about the rivet holes on the back as that is for the rear spoiler stil being painted.

I would say not a bad 4 weeks worth of work from completely stripped to paint, to painted, engine in, everything done. Not bad at all.

thanks man. All my buids are homebrew backyard builds. Who cares if i do it in a sandlot. haha. Take care of the motor properly and you dont have to worry about dirt. I am going to eventually be putting a cement pad in next to my shed. Sucks having to move boards around to make things easier. haha

I have also done it without boards and trust me, dragging an engine hoist through the dirt with a motor and trans on the end is not a fun endevor. haha

a little update. Car is up and running but was running in limp mode. Everything seemed to check out good as far as sensors, grounds, and all so it was only one thing left to check that i figured it was gonna be when i put the motor together.

Cam timing was off one tooth at the cam sprocket drive chain. These motors are soo sensitive to cam timing its not even funny. Even though it was in limp mode the motor purred at idle and we ran it for about an hour last night as i was running through the systems to double check everything on the wiring and sensors.

I should have trusted my gut on it when it didnt look perfect. One tooth off on that sprocket will look like it could be right but when its actually right everything will line up perfect without a doubt.

I remember when my buddies motor skipped time on one of the cam sprockets because when it had the headgasket done the mechanic didnt put the sprocket on right and all the way tightened down. One tooth on the cam and the thing wouldnt even hardly run or start.

In reality one tooth on the chain at the cam sprocket drive is approx 10 deg off cam timing. These ecus pick up on that instantly. haha.

Vids should be coming tonight after i reset the timing chain.

Car is up and running like a champ, i had one wire that i mis wired that was the ground for all 5v sensors, had it wired to a 12v positive wire, Stupid wires that are the same color wire. Oh well, im very lucky to not have fried the ECU but all is well thanks to the OBDII scan tool lent to us by a friend. Just doing the last couple things like bleed the brakes, fender intall, raise coilovers, front bumper and signals wired up. Solder up a couple last wires and clean it all up.

So here is the startup vid. We also need to do a final valve adjustment after breakin is done. Valvetrain is noisy in some spots but other than that it purrs. Exhaust is running open right now as well and he will have a 3" full exhaust made later with the AEM wideband.

oh trust me thats exactly what he will be using it for. Thats what he used the car for when it had the 4AG motor in it.

Now the new power and short gears it should do quite well.

awesome, the driveshaft was done awesome, absolutely no vibration at all from the driveline at low or high speeds. Drives and rides awesome.

Car is now a 2.1L 89mm bore with fully built head as well. Some new numbers and fine tune on the AEM EMS coming very soon.

drifting. He has taken the car out just recently after putting about 800 miles on it and he said the torque from the 2.1L is awesome. It doesnt quite have the topend pull but it more than makes up in the bottom end. He can drift in 3rd and 4th gear very easily. Thing is running awesome. He is gonna have to get some vids up soon.
