Re: E46 m3 or S2000
you are asking a really general question. and how are you going to make a decision based on a few peoples opinions?
the two cars could not be anymore different besides the rwd platform.

Very true I guess was hoping someone in this forum has had the same choice.
I know the s2000 will be cheaper to mod and i'm not looking for big horesepower maybe 400whp.

Re: E46 m3 or S2000
I have driven M3 and own an S2000. M3 is faster and handles good, S2000 bit more fun in the track department. Price to up keep of the M3 I am sure is more then S2000, 400whp S2000 probably need a turbo or supercharger that can cost a pretty penny. But in short both cars are great and in a track setting I have past and been past by M3

i'd say if you need a more practical car, go with the M3, if you don't care about practicality, go with the S2000.
S2000 will be cheaper in the long run, better on gas, cheaper to insure, etc, etc, etc.

I own both. M3 is way faster than s2k and deffinately more practical depending on your age. I own both outright so I can't tell you which one I'd sell first, but I'll probably get rid of m3 before s2k, but only to upgrade.
How many miles? If they both have 40k they're in the same boat but long term, s2k will hold its value at high mileage and be more reliable

Re: E46 m3 or S2000
M3 is at 97,700 and s2k is at 109,000. Lol I've learned real quick the m3 is expensive to mod and maintain. I have a daily but whew the dealer hits the pockets every time I go and it's just for parts.
Plus the m3 has so many common issues an almost all are classified as the "m clunk". I do enjoy the car though. Nothing like being in sport mode rolling through the gears.
For me it's going to boil down to sitting in the s2000.

Re: E46 m3 or S2000
I've never driven an E46 M3 but have driven a 4-door E36 M3 and honestly handling feels pretty damn close to the S2000 and definitely quicker and makes power a lot earlier making it more fun on the street IMO. I'm sure the E46 is about the same but better. I would have gone with an E46 M3 hands down if it wasn't so expensive to maintain and didn't have so many issues..

Re: E46 m3 or S2000
I drove a e46 in 07, other than the power and four seats its not worth it, it's rather heavy in the turns, and if stock, it's turn in is not sharp comparing it to the s2000. Maintanence cost are more, and aftermarket mods are more expensive than the s2000. Replacement parts are also costly.

Re: E46 m3 or S2000
I have owned an m3 and currently own am s2k. I liked my m3 more in some aspects but the s2k has things I like to. The turbo market for the e46 m3 is on the expensive side and less popular than the boosted s2k.

I traded in my S2000 on an E36 M3 and haven't looked back since. I do miss the convertible on nice days though. To me the M3 is a much more solid car than the S2k, but everyone has their own opinion.

Re: E46 m3 or S2000
I have owned a 06 imola red M3 non smg, and currently own a 05 nfr s2000. They are both amazing machines but, the decision on which to own is ultimately up to you and what your plans are. The M3 is significantly more expensive to maintain in terms of routine maintenance. Both are expensive to mod in my opinion. The s2000 is more affordable to make big numbers but if 400whp is all you are after a superchager on the M3 will do that no problem. Active Autowerks makes a nice one. I personally preferred the M3 due to it having more room and being more of a status symbol, but in the end it depends solely on what your plans for the car are. Hope this helps, and you have a nice M3 by the way!

Re: E46 m3 or S2000
Test drive the s2000 then create a pros and cons list. Only you can tell whether you should trade your m3 for an s2k.
For considerations, as the above posters have said, you lose practicality with the s2k. Good luck!

Test drive one. Only then can you tell what is best for you. Everyone else have their own ideas and opinions.

Re: E46 m3 or S2000
I agree with almost all of this.... all except the E36 part. The E36 and E30 used to be my two favorite cars, but after spending time repairing both of them, I no longer like either anymore. E46 is a great car and I would go for that over an S2k any day, but the S2k does have it's advantages like it's cheaper to maintain, has less common gremlins (E46 subframes, waterpumps, digital climate control going out, power window regulators, cam sensors, etc. ).
Even with the more problems and expense of the E46, I'd still go that route though.

Re: E46 m3 or S2000
I had CPO E46 M3 6-7 years ago was a sick car back then. I wouldn't want to own M3 with 100k miles....mine had many different issues from small to big, I still enjoyed the car ALOT.
In terms of fun factor very comparable to S2000 that I have now, but of course slower, more space, luxury, with expense of so so reliability.
funny today i was just thinking about getting e92 M3, but reliability scares me.....beautiful car.
