Interesting...considering the 04/05 WITH the 17's has better #'s all around just about, and hell, a little cosmetic improvment never hurt anything. I just find it funny that so many people are so dead set that anything over 16"s for wheels just completely ruins a car, when honestly, the difference wouldnt be noticeable hardly at all to a LARGE majority of the S2000 owners. We dont race our S2000...why would i want to put a smaller wheel on it? And what negative effects are my 17" wheels honda slapped on my wife's S2000 that the 2000-2003's didnt experience?

As far as balance...id say this car is quite possibly one of the MOST balanced cars i have ever driven...(withen reason...im sure exotics would prove me wrong but im not in the market for $80K+ cars either)...

Im just sick of all the "16" or less...the rest is worthless" Its almost as pointless on most of the cars in question as air difusers and what not...who gives a **** really?</TD></TR></TABLE>

I never said that, I simply said it doesnt need 17's. Honda using them, is more of a marketing gimmick, than a nessecity for performance.

These better numbers you speak of, are because of two key factors, that you already know...... the gear ratio's, and the up in displacement, not the bigger heavier wheels, and additional rotational interia.

I personally wouldnt use anything bigger than 16's, because I'm not concerned about looks, I'm more concerned with the handling. The 17's would only have to make the suspension and brakes work harder. But yes.....at least they look nice.

Its all good man, we're all entitled to our opinions, im just saying...i dont see any gains that i myself am gonna see by slapping smaller rims on there, but then again, thats just me, your ideal would apply to someone...somewhere...sometime.

Anyways...like i said, honda found an awesome balance while retaining 17" rims, thats all i was getting at.

...if your gonna claim this, show some facts to back it up. Show me where a 2004 S2000 is running faster with the change of 15" or 16" rims in any aspect over the stock 17" rims...im not saying your wrong, im just saying...show me.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I can show you the physics......which is applied thru a huge spectrum of just about anything with wheels on it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by tsunami_zc &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

Well in the basics of racing, you run the smallest possible wheels, that your brakes will allow. "plus sizing" is not the ultimate fix, to your handling improvements.

the root of the big wheel/little wheel is not weight.... its rotational inertia (also called moment of inertia)....

the physics equation has 4 constituents

k, m, r, i
where k is some constant......&gt; m is the mass of the wheel....&gt; r is the radius and i is the moment of inertia

the relationship is thus:
i = km(r^2)

what this means is that even though you have a larger wheel that may weigh the same as a smaller wheel the radius (of the rim) is the more important factor...

a 20" wheel that weighs 10 lbs has TWICE the moment of inertia as a 10" wheel that weighs 20 lbs...

moment of inertia is not only related to resistance to rotational acceleration..... but to changes in rotational direction...&gt; in other words the wheel with the smaller moment of inertia will offer better steering response as well as better acceleration.... a few examples i can offer here are thus&gt;

&gt; ever take the front wheel off a bicycle, hold it by either side of the axle, and spin the wheel as fast you can..... and try to change the direction... the wheel naturally resists this errr .....damn that gravity ....lol

&gt;try the same test with a smaller wheel .....and the resistance is vastly reduced...

the second and more relevant example&gt; polar moment of inertia in a car&gt; the steering response from the moment of inertia of the wheel acts IDENTICALLY to the rotational responsiveness of a mid-engine car..... its because THE WEIGHT IS MORE CENTERALLY (sp?) LOCATED

yes, the tire may be one of the heavier portions of the unsprung mass of the car.... but even moving the sidewall inwards by making it taller... you are putting more "air" at the outside of the equation... effectively reducing the "r" portion for most of the individual portions of mass of the rotating wheel/tire combo.......

nevermind that having a taller sidewall allows more forgiving handling... reducing the breakaway speed and making the car more controllable & predictable at the limit....

Whoa guys you're way off topic! This guy didn't want to know which wheels offer the best performance. He wants to see some 19" Black wheels on an S2000. What business is it of yours to tell him what looks good and what doesn't? He has his own style and you have yours. Now if you have nothing helpful to say, why do you post?

Black on black .....with a big polished lip .....I think they will look hot.

Or maybe white on black .....polished lip, and a black hardtop roof ...

Do you own an s2000? If not, shut up and GTFO of this forum.

It's our business as fellow owners to tell him that 19's look stupid and ruin the entire car's performance and balance.

It is really hard to find a rim with a large lip for the S2K. This cars offsets do not allow for a big lip. Now, polished lips look great, but they won't be very large.

The ones I just posted have a good enough lip for me. And they come in the right offset.
