Default Autocrossing Television Show

Hello!

My name is April Bennett and I have been surrounded by auto crossing ever since I was a little girl. Practically every guy in my family has been involved in racing in one way or another. Now, I work in television and I have noticed there is no human-interest show on television for people who are involved in grassroot motorsports. I have decided to do research on a show that would interest YOU. I want to hear about what YOU want to see on a television show about auto crossing. I want to make it a human-interest show. I want it to show how much fun auto crossing can be for the everyday American. I want people to see that you don’t have to sneak around at night to race, there are people all over the United States involved in auto crossing one way or another.

Please let me know what YOU want to see in a motorsports show. I would greatly appreciate the help. This will be a show made by auto crossers for auto crossers.

Let me know what you think at bendueprod@gmail.com. I will greatly appreciate the help!

I can’t wait!
April Bennett

As a religeous speed channel viewer, i get tired of all the shows about old chevy's and fords and what not.(with the exception to Sports Car Revolution, Tuner Transformation, Redline TV, and a few others. They need to realize that today's market doesn't revolve around that. I would love to see a show that involves:

1.People like most us first of all, not things that we cannot do. Like build a $75,000 track beast, just to have fun with, then scrap. (Like is said MOST of us, there are some people out there that have that kind of money, more power to you guys.)

2. Road Racing/or if u must Autocrossing, (X is not my cup of tea, but i know alot of people enjoy that.)

3. Project cars, like build-ups that we can follow as the show goes through the season.

4. I'm quickly realizing that i am naming everything that Sports Car Revolution has, its a damn good show. (Watch a couple of episodes on SPEED TV it airs on Wednesday

5. Lastly, I guess the only thing that i would like in a show is just modern cars, I am tired of hearing about JEGS and small block chevys and all of that stuff, this is the year 2006, where S2000's, EVO's, STI's, SRT's, and K20 powered EK's rule the car tuning business. (Not that i have anything against other cars but building up a 8 second 5.0 and then dragging it is something of the past.

Just my two cents.

One of my favorite shows of all times is TopGear... The thing that makes them is the hosts. That being said, I completely agree with e-honda.

I would love to turn on my tv and see something other then dyno queens, or big block old school carborated drag race builds. I'd love to see roadcourse car builds, autox, something with turns and modern tuning on EFI type motors. Indepth discussions on suspension geometry and characteristics, and a demonstration on a roadcourse would be neat!

Not all enthusiasts' track time get to be on TV. There are hundreds of events like these where we come out just for the purpose of having fun. The only fame we get, if ever, are video clips on the internet.

You should take a viewers car & mod it over the course of the season. People always love to see those types of human intrest stories.

It's a tough job, but I'll volunteer my car & time for that.

if someone REALLY wanted to draw raitings for some type of automotive show, they need to focus on the more minor things, like for example i believe someone wrote we need to get away from the track monsters, and the super chevys / fords, the young adults in this day and age are more into the import side of things, and yes SRT-4 and cobalt ss DO count as an import i know its usa made but they were designed for the import world bottom line, if they were to do a show simply like nopi tuner vision witch i watched every episode, but on the other end of things, witch would be more on the performance end of things, like the show trucks for example, each week they build a different part of a truck, why not have a 4 cyl. on for a change, the two major things i belive all in all would be Drifting witch isnt my cup of tea, autocrossing in the same aspect, and quarter miles of things that are more achievable by the young adult generation of car builders, hey let faces it some ppl can only afford a swapped civic but they need some of the spot light also.

Unfortunatly I think that any show on US TV will be the half thouth, anyone who has watched the original Top Gears knows, that they are very critical about any cars, and this is something that US sponsors do not allow, that is why the Discovery Channel US version of Top Gear was modified and negative information about US cars was cut out.
Although I admire your effort in trying to create such a show, and would be the first one to watch it, if you added clips from private track days, AutoX competitions from all around America and maybe added some DTM or GT racing in there. I don not beleive that it is possible to make a REAL TV show about cars in America.
So many political and financial matters influence what you are allowed to say on TV, censors from the sponsors looking through the show, making sure you do not say one bad thing about the BIG 3 (GM, Diamler-Chrystler, Ford) products. The show would be cancelled, because American Manufacturers are afraid of the trouth - that American cars aren't made to last, they are made to look.
And it's not that the shows available on TV lie about anything, they just don't tell the whole story, there is always a way to say something about every car out there so you don't have to reveal too much information about the hidden kinks and glitches.

AS for a show about SCCA - you would be also limited on the information you could provide. SCCA is a very messy and disogranised club and although they put their best efforts into making it look good, all you have to do is to look at their web page to realise that they need a reform. A show about AutoX and other SCCA events, could show the problems within SCCA and since they are so tightly connected with the BIG 3 they could also have influence on what you can or cannot show.

I would be one of your strongest supporters if you could prove to me, that there is a way to make a show on American TV that is actually free to express the throughts.

I love autoX and I have been competing in local SCCA events for several years. But I have to admit that it's pretty boring to watch if you are not competing yourself. I think it would be pretty tough to make a show about autoX that is compelling and interesting enough to watch for the casual car-enthusiast viewer.

Just filming a Solo2 event at ground level is not really interesting to watch because it's all the little subtlties that you CANNOT see from that angle that make fast Solo2 drivers fast. The key would be for you to come up with some unique way to show the competition - Maybe like a bird-eye, top-down view of each run from a helicopter or maybe GPS and acceleromter sets in each car so that you could recreate and analyze each run for the viewers...
