where is a good place to buy performance parts?
i have a 95 prelude si, and i want to start buliding my motor, its a H23 non v-tec. i had a couple questions. where is a good place to buy performance parts, i have heard good stuff about ebay but i have heard more bad things than good. so i was wondering where is a good place (or a couple good places) to buy some performance parts for my car? also i was wondering where would be a good place to start, like what should i buy first to start out with and then go from there? i know im going to get a few different answers but at least it will give me a idea. o one more thing i want to find a shop to get some of my work done at but i dont trust alot of people when it comes to working on my car so how can i find a good shop, what kinds of things should i look for or ask them? thanks for any help

As far as what to do, read up on the faq's and then start searching around for mods you might be interested in doing. Sometimes the good info is buried, but there is actually a lot of good info here on h-t. Read up on what will make the biggest differences and what parts aren't really necessary.
As far as parts go, honestly I'd start right here. There are usually quite a few good items priced appropriately in the for sale section. Also for used items, eBay can be a good place if you know what you are looking for and what a decent price should look like. For new oem parts, check out www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and for aftermarket I'm a fan of www.summitracing.com.

Aftermarket parts are few and far for the H23. Before spending ANY money on it, I would look into an H22 swap.
Building the bottom end is the only way to really get power out of them.....Whether it be with stock Honda parts(Pirate McFreds build) or aftermarket parts.

There's approximately 10,000 posts about that.......
CLIFFS: Plopping an H22 head on a stock H23 block is Drunk Driving......
Sure you might get away with it, but if you get caught, it'll cost you $3-5k.

Re: where is a good place to buy performance parts?
For once, I agree with Bangher$. ebay is where you buy aftermarket or some OEM replacement parts. It really depends on the part, however. Some stuff you get from ebay, some stuff you get from sparkplugs.com, some stuff you get from a Honda wholesaler like Majestic (www.hondaautomotiveparts.com).
Finding a shop is tricky. That's mostly related to where you are. Some areas have lots of Honda-geniuses outside the dealership whereas in other areas (like Oklahoma) you can't even trust the "certified Honda technicians" at the stealership.
Here's a little test I like to do when if I ever have to take a car to a shop. 1, Pull up and pop the hood. 2, Ask the mechanic to name everything he sees, including the code of the engine and its specifications. If they can't, walk away.

Few and far....not non-existent. i know how you feel though......I owned a Prelude in 1999. ****, at least GUDE was making goodies for non-VTECs.

modacar and andysautosport are some places to look at but have you decided what you want to do i.e F.I or N/A because this would greatly help your decision on what to do.
Clifnotes
Keep your H23 for Boost
Swap an H22 for N/A powa

Re: where is a good place to buy performance parts?
k i have done alot of searching and maybe im not doing it right but i can not find it. For me to do a h22 swap in my 95 prelude SI what is everything i need? should i keep my h23 tranny or should i get a h22 tranny? and would it be smarter or easier to get a h22 out of a 95 prelude or will any 92-96 h22 work just the same? sorry for asking this, im not one of those lazy people who just post **** up without doing the research themselfs first but like i said i can not find this information, so if someone could give it to me or give me a link to where i can find it, it would help me alot. thanks for all the info so far

Re: where is a good place to buy performance parts?
IIRC, you'd be best to stick with any H22 from 92-95 (not sure if a 92 came with vtec though). I wanna say that the '96 VTEC came in OBD2, which means you'd hafta do a bit more work. Don't quote me on this though, i've been doing the research myself and this is just off the top of my head on what i think i remember.
Someone will either confirm this or correct me.

All H or F trannys(except the f20/f22c) are swappable but you want to get a h22 one which is gear shorter and everything you need for the swap is in the FAQ section either on here or preludepower, superhonda, and preludeonline
