where can i find a Camshaft/Valvetrain DIY Write-up
i searched but could not find a complete write up:
if anyone knows where one is please point me inthe right direction
if anyone had done this and knows any tricks/things to be extra careful on/problems that might arise please also inform me.
and would it be easier to have a shop do the work(so that their labor would be under warranty?) average pricingso i don't pay too much?

best bet is to pick up a Helm's service manual and read teh procedure. then ask yourself if you are confident that you can complete this job. if you feel that it might be iffy just leave it to the pros to do.
in my opinion its cake, just time consuming. for someone who hasn't done this before I would set aside a whole weekend to work on it.

Re: (Eddiebx)
If you haven't done your own timing and a valve adjustment before i bet its gonna take more than a weekend. Also ensure you have ALL parts before pulling anything apart. For a head swap at the very minimum you will need:
HELMS MANUAL ( this is a MUST HAVE )
New OEM head gasket
2 New OEM Cam Seals ( on the cam gear side )
Hondabond or similar RTV silicone sealant.
Intake Manifold gasket ( assuming you need to remove the IM )
Exhaust Manifold gasket
New valvecover gasket set if yours is trashed.
id replace the plugs as well if you haven't done a tuneup in a long time, new wires cap rotor etc.. use your noggin. may as well do it all at once.
If the timing belt is worn replace it and if you need to replace the oil pump or water pump do that as well. May as well get some oil and a filter and change the oil a few hundred miles after the new head has been on.
You are gonna need some other specialty tools to do the timing belt ( crank pulley holder and a torque wrench that goes to 180+ ft lbs )
All normal hand tools plus a decent torque wrench. Gotta have a jack and stands for the T belt and its better to get the car off the ground a little bit so you don't jack your back up leaning over constantly ( it sucks ***** trust me on this one )
Also, you may strip some bolts or lose something or bust a sensor that needs to be replaced. So take your time and be extra careful. If you dont have any tools or dont feel you can do this, then dont even try.

I would suggest definitly getting new hardware for inside the head ie cam jornals bolts. I broke 3 of these when putting new cams in.

How the expletive did you manage that ? They need to be torqued to 8 ft lbs. thats hand tight, just snug. Dont over tighten and you wont break them.
If had mine in and out maybe 4 times, and never had a problem. Read the helms manual and everything will be fine and dandy.

Re: where can i find a Camshaft/Valvetrain DIY Write-up (systemofadown)
not real hard but a major pain in the *** thats for sure.
The hardest part is getting the damn belt on. I figured out the best way and put my belt on/off like 3 times just to insure i had everything dead on.
Its very time consuming.

Re: where can i find a Camshaft/Valvetrain DIY Write-up (oranginal)
i've never tampered with an engine b4 so i am worried about taking my head apart. i aldo have cam gears, hondabond, the proper belts/hoses, a water pump, and the proper gaskets.
how much should i expect to pay at a shop, i don't wanna get ripped off?
i went to two one said 1,500 the other said about 600-700.

I guess some dirt got in the head (how I dont know) but, turning them by hand I broke one and the other two broke in my previous head. Two were my fault but the other was was not.

Re: (durand202)
clean the bolts nextime before you install
Its very easily doable as long as you have your helms by your side and are somewhat capable with a wrench. If you don't want to attempt it, then look for a reputable shop that does good work. they may be a little bit more money, but if they do a fantastic job and stand behind their work, there is no reason not to spend the little bit of extra cash.
