Yeah, that's how they do all their trunks. You just get the metal part and you have to attach all the plastic stuff and locks and such...

I really want to get one of those myself. What does it weigh compared to stock??

I'd like to know the weight difference also seeing as the stock trunk is pretty light already. $400+ is a good chunk of change for just a lil show...

I would estimate that any difference in weight is negligable. It really doesn't make any more difference in weight then if you had just taken a **** or if you're holding it all in....think about that.

so if you really want to go faster...poop.

you will save about 10lbs or a little more...but the only downfall in having a cf trunk is...when you pop the latch from the driver side, the trunk flies open real fast because it is sooo light. (if your friend stands in front of the trunk when you open it...be careful, it might knock em out...

I have the VIS carbon-fiber trunk on my fifth-gen, and this is true... it does fly up very fast. By the way, anyone know a place in Texas to get carbon-fiber wrapping and overlay done?

that would make me laugh, i would set people up and bash them like that....

i doubt 10lbs is worth the mint needed to buy one of those things....

A little OT, but has anyone ever seen a 4th gen with the black-top scheme like on civics, with the CF hood & trunk, with the roof painted black?

I met someone with a 4th gen with a VIS trunk, and all you have to do for spring tension is take out one of the two springs. They are pretty easy to remove. One spring barely holds it up, so it stays at any angle you put it.

Plus, then you can put ONE super-deep speaker in there.

i already have the cf hood, i wanted to get the trunk too. n to finish it off, not to have the roof painted black but to get that cf insert for the sunroof, like on steve oaks car. i think that would be sick

Ditto, I plan on doing that someday since my hood is in sad shape, my wing is fiber blooming, and the sunroof insert saves some serious weight. I'll replace those items with carbon fiber & expect it to look nice & save me close to 50lbs.

VIS products are more concerned with looks and mass production than the lightest / strongest product .. lucky for them tho c/f ends up lighter than metal no matter how you put it together ..

IMO .. JSP makes lighter / stronger products .. there stuff is often over looked but should probably get more attention from tuners looking to build true performance vehicles ..

They make hoods for the 4th gen .. and hoods and trunks for the 5th gen ..

heres some Q & A from the JSP FAQ ..

1. Why aren't the edges on your hoods and trunks "rolled" like other manufactures?

Most rolled edges out on the market are nice to look at but they reduce the integrity and durability of your hood or trunk. These "rolled" edges are thicker than the rest of the part; therefore the part will react differently in those areas over time due to temperature changes (winter/summer). This usually leads to yellowing or clouding edges, as well as brittle edges that are easily chipped or cracked. Most rolled edges also incorporate a lot of body filler or putty to carry the rolled look over to the inner frame of the hood/trunk; and as we all know putty and or body filler adds weight and is not desirable on any component of an automotive body. These are just a few reasons why we choose not to incorporate rolled edges in our products.

4. Are your products really manufactured in North America or do you just re-pack and claim them to be made in North America?

All products are 100% handcrafted in North America; we do not have our product made overseas and re-pack here then claim them to be North American made.

6. Will my hood/trunk yellow or start to loose its clarity after it's exposed to the sun?

No, all surfaces exposed to the sun are manufactured with materials that contain UV stabilizers, and each hood/trunk is further protected with a UV stable clear coat.

.. I donno about anyone else .. but my VIS c/f hood yellowed around the edges after tjust the first month. And got small dents all over it .. (weak wet carbon) ..

Don't get a CF sunroof plug because it "looks sick". It completely removes the use of your sunroof and you should only do it if you want to loose weight.
